Thumbs up Exhaust & Check Engine light

AfterMarket Exhaust

I was at the dealer the other day and they had a great looking Exhaust for sale but no sound file.

Spoke to several guys and various shops and all agree with the Cats sometimes some exhaust will throw a check engine light.

My TT is a CPO and even though dealer is doing install I'm not interested in opening a can of worms so here is the question.

Is the Exhaust Headers + 100 Cats and Exhaust make that much of a difference and is it worth it on an everyday driver with no FLASH till CPO expires ?

Yes it is worth doing but 100cell will cause a CEL unless its an EP.

What system is it?

For that price get a europipe instead and you're set.

And from what I've read here stock headers are excellent, no need to make a change

Good luck

Yes aftermarket headers cost a fortune and are not worth the money for your needs. The reason some exhausts will throw a CEL is because the cat parameters have changed. The ECU reads the change as "bad cats".

I have a TechArt and I had to get one and half inch extensions to the cat bungs to cure the problem.

As Art says for that money I would get the EP or similar. I know the EP will not throw a code..

I was getting the exhaust much cheaper then that price since I purchased a new 650i from the BMW side of the dealer.

Would be nice if you had some kind of sound sample before you buy...

+1

The stock headers are partly double walled so the air inside the header tubes remains very hot. Hot air = big volume = high air speed = faster spinning turbocharger = good. Aftermarket headers are never double walled but they have a better flowing 3 into 1 collector. So with aftermarket headers you'll lose a little and you'll gain a little at the same time. I'm sure they can be better on very high hp engines but for us "normal guys" I'd stick with the stock ones unless you are planing to upgrade your VTG

The porsche motorsports headers made by MM are also double walled, as are the ones they make for fvd. But, yes, headers are useless on street cars.

I would not buy that system it looks like a .2 muffler although Kraus systems seem to have a good reputation.

Plus 100cell will cause a light.

I would do some more research before pulling the trigger.

I can't speak for other exhaust manufacturers, but the Europipe uses 100 cell for both 997tt models and they do not cause CEL.

Europipe will not cause any CEL
