Default centerlock with RS spyder wheels on 997 turbo

Hey guys, there is a car that im really interested in buying, it has all the options i want on it, but the only thing that i really dont like is the center lock option with RS spyder wheels... i wanted the 5 lug wheels so that ill have more choise in aftermarket wheel choices, but if the price was right, will you guys just say **** it and buy this car? theres not alot of 09 turbos in 6 MT with the miles i want in the market right now...

I don't think 09's had CL's as an option so they must have been added. Ask seller if he has the 5-lug parts still around. Or see if someone wants to swap wheels and parts with you.

i believe the late model 09's had the option to add centerlock option fromt he factory with the RS spyder wheels, my buddie actually has a 09 too with the centerlock option on his 09 turbo. i was wondering will i be able to convert back to the 5 lug when i want to?

Of course centerlocks were an option in 2009.
You can convert to 5 lug if you want but at a (substantial) cost.

how much do you think it might be? since it was an option, don't you think you just take the centerlock conversion off and itll be 5 lug?

If it were only that simple...going from 5-lug to CL is $2K+ just in parts.

The issues with CL:
+ heavier at each wheel end...I think around under 5 lbs
+ you will need the big wrench to remove/install the CL and you must be careful to install properly and to torque it properly...
+ maintenance issues which depends on the miles/number of on/offs specially for track use.
+ more limited choices of wheels -- although this was a bigger problem 5 years ago than now. Since the original launch of CL many wheel suppliers offer both 5L and CL.

Will you be tracking the car a lot? If not, there is nothing wrong with CL if you really like the car! If yes, I would avoid CL due to the hassles of wheels on and wheels off!....All things equal, yes, take the car with 5L, but if I loved the car with CL....I would do it!!!!

All of this stuff is well documented in the 997GT2/GT3 forum.

Thank you very much for the detailed post, but honestly no, I wouldn't be tracking the car often, maybe once or twice a year, itll be driven mostly on the streets and highway... Also I want a 5 lug wheel too for the availablility of aftermarket wheels, but I really do like the CL car also...

Before you give up on the CL car that you like, you should check and see if the wheels that you like are available or not in CL or not.... I know that HRE and BBS both have many choices in CL.

Good luck...
