My car is almost done getting new tires, new accumulator, new plugs, etc. During the service, the shop mentioned that my serpentine belt looked old and cracked, so I gave them the go ahead to replace it.

They called me today and said that when they went to put the new belt on they noticed the crank pulley was nicked and that's what was chewing up the serpentine belt. Anyone ever head of this happening?

Well makes me feel better knowing that I don't have a mysterious issue nobody's seen . I'll upload some pics of the old pulley when I get the car back.

Roy, Please post am image of the nicked crank pulley. Why would the crank pulley be damaged enough to affect the belt life? On a near new car...was the motor taken out? I just looked at my car and you can barely even see the pulley from the bottom and no way from the top.

Yeah, not too thrilled about this. I'll post images as soon as I get the car back which should hopefully be tomorrow. The shop said it looked basically as if someone had grabbed it with a pair of pliers.

I am very upset with Hennessy Porsche in Atlanta GA. They are the creatures that did the pre-purchase inspection on this car.

This is totally insane, I'm amazed if this didn't cause something to blow up whenever it happened to the previous owner. My shop said there were thread marks on the pulley and the engine casing, indicating that someone dropped a bolt down in there and then started the engine.

Holy smokes! That is a dented pulley! Now I can see why your belt would have been damaged! The bolt dropping and making this mess theory makes more sense than someone grabbing it with a pair of pliers! I believe that these pulleys are Spun Steel which makes them light and hard, so denting is a challenge!

Oh well...sounds like you now have found a good repair shop that you like? IMHO, these are easy stuff that you will correct on the car, and now you KNOW your starting point with the car.

I would send a note to Hennessey and get your PPI money back or ask them to fire the blind guy that does the PPIs...

Yeah, I'm glad all of the trouble is over with for now . The whole car feels awesome now with the clutch working right and the engine running strong.

And yeah, I think I've got a good shop to use - they did a TON of stuff and although it was expensive, the car came back to me in perfect shape.

Here's everything I had done, I think the car should be running strong for quite some time:

Crank pulley
Accessory belt
Accumulator
Coolant change
Oil change
Air filter
Diff fluid change
Trans fluid change
Spark plugs
Mounted new pilot super sports

Weather forecast is awesome for this weekend. Gonna try and take some nice pics somewhere

Amazing story. The fact that they didn't see that during the PPI indicates how many other things they may not have even looked at. Yikes!

So glad that your tech caught that and you were able to replace it before any other damage happened.

I would raise hell with Hennessy!

How many miles on your car? May I ask why you changed the Tranny fluid?
