Question Light Weight Flywheel Noise Under Acceleration Normal?

I recently had a lightweight flywheel installed with the new clutch. Had a LWFW on my 964 and 993 and loved it. But on the turbo I'm hearing noises where they shouldn't be. The chatter at idle I'm fine with. It actually almost goes away when you press the Sport button. But it is also noisy in a different way while in gear under 2200 RPM. Here's a short video of what it sounds like in 6th gear when stepping on the gas after coasting. I hear a rattling sound up to 2200RPM. None of my other cars had that. Here's what it sounds like:

Sounds similar to this:

ilko, sorry for this trouble. Did it start as soon as you installed the LWFW? I need a clutch on my GT2 so I have been researching the threads on the 997 GT2/GT3 forum and I remember other guys with the same issue as you after a clutch change. One of them has done multiple DEs and never found any issues -- not sure if it is the same problem or not? (sorry cannot remember the thread, but look over there).

wow that sounds nasty. Im not sure i'd be driving it 1 foot with that noise going on, Sounds like something is coming into contact within the clutch housing...
....take the box off and check it out.

Yes, it started after the Clutch/Flywheel install. Supposedly it's normal, according to the guys on 6speed. But I'm not happy with the sound. Will have to go back to DMF...

My bad, i thought ilko fitted it up but if it was a mechanic then i agree totally. If it's true then I'm shocked he allowed ilko to even take the car like that out of the shop.

Ilko no way. Ive never heard any GT3RS sound like that....ever. If someones trying to tell you that is normal then they are having a complete lend of you. Have it towed it to a decent shop and get it sorted man. That grinding sound is bad. I wouldn't switch it on again the way it sounds.

Just heard it on a real computer, not the phone. It's not a good sound, I have heard similar sounds in a cup, but not like that. Something is amiss.

A: i do not have that sound w/ my Stage 3 sachs and LWFW... i would take it apart asap and check, probably something so minor..

i do know that i was told with our assist system that sometimes needs to be adjusted to hold properly/etc... my local shop recommended i remove the assist setup.

B: you get 50pt's in my book for using the stock nav setup... i am young and tech saavy and still find it a pain in the *** and not worth the time to use.. i can't even get my damn home saved and regular points of interest.

Well, according to AWE and the guys on 6speed, it's normal: http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/9...on-normal.html

As kk2 can attest, I put the car to some good use this weekend and nothing is broken

I love how the clutch feels but don't like the way it sounds and might switch to a DMF.

Riley, the stock Navi is OK in my book. It is similar to the RNS-E in my Audi. I still haven't figured out the favorites, etc. And forget about storing a radio station! But thanks for the points I could always use a few extra

good use is an understatement!

Glad to hear it seems normal. I say keep it, but if for any reason you want a lightly used 996 gt3 DMF I have mine sitting in the garage.

Cheers...just read it. Looks like there are some differening opinions over there to how much noise is really normal though. Still say i've never heard any GT3RS sound that woefully sick so if some are saying that's normal then good luck putting up with that racket. As a DD forget it....that would more than drive anyone nuts.

Ilko's is much more noticeable than mine, but they emit a similar sound.
