Seems to me it would record a 1 2 3 4 on the way to 5.

You should scan your read out and attach it and you will get the experts to interpret it for you.

And In the last couple of months Excellence had a decent article on the over-revs. Sorry, I cannot remember which month but it was the last couple. It was a part of PPI article.

Going by memory (& I had to deal with this -- long story):
Level 1: 6800-7000rpm
Level 2: 7000-7200rpm
Level 3: 7200-7400rpm
Level 4: 7400-7900rpm
Level 5: 7900-9000rpm
Level 6: more than 9000rpm

If you get a L5 count, you will also get L1, 2, 3, 4 counts as well. So as the rpm goes up you trigger the count in each level.

Correct!! The readout tells you what hour the over rev occurred so it's not accurate any more than this for time...and yes, can't get to 5 without having passed through 1, 2, 3 and 4.

[Im wondering how it records. Does it record all reached levels at the exact same time or does it just record the peak rpm level.

if this was a one-stroke bad day, i.e. money shift, times will be obviously close(seconds or fractions of). High likelihood is this occured post-trade, dealer or independant broker/re-seller etc. Bottom line, though, is if this is a legitimate 5, where, when, how and why it happened is totally immaterial.
