I just drove my TT 6 speed home after 11+ hours of driving and what can I say "WOW" is the word. On highways it overtakes like nothing, smooth. In city the engagement of gears just makes the car fun. I am so happy....its raining ...going to get pics soon....

I have driven both auto and pdk......I find little difference except for maybe a slightly quicker shift of gears in pdk. Both auto-oil and auto-dual clutch have same massive 'driver disconnection'. Such transmissions really do not belong in a world's sports car for the street.

The 6speed is great! I would only go Tip if i drag raced the car a lot! A stalled Tip is the **** on the drag strip!

I cannot speak for the reliability...but I can speak for the DD question. I drove a 2001 996TT as a DD (2001-2007) and when I bought the 2007 997TT as a DD (2007-now) I switched to Tip. I have never looked back...I don't know where you live and DD can mean different things depending on your location, etc. I have to drive into Chicago and sometimes a 20 mile commute takes 20 min and sometimes 45min or 90min like last week in the rainstorms...you get the idea...

Yeah...the Tip is slushy sometimes and shifts stupid, etc....but after a couple of days of daily driving you will not think about the manual.

I also have a 997 GT2 manual and I use that car for a different purpose and for sure I prefer the manual...

IMO your usage of the vehicle should drive your decision here...

If I had to drive daily in very heavy traffic conditions (that is, minimum an hour of stop-and-go) I would probably prefer PDK. Since I seldom drive in such conditions (though it happens) I prefer the involvment of the manual. I have stock clutch in my 997T and I have no problem with it, never stalled it, even in the Alps.
On the other hand, in the Alps I wished for PDK when I was trying to take uphill hairpins very fast.

When I was looking I test drove and compared both. Tip for me in DC traffic was a no-brainer.

I spend a lot of time in downtown Chicago and I have no problem driving stick or whatever. Not really a driving factor in my decision making process- if the car has character and is fun the third pedal doesn't have to be a deal breaker either way.

I owned a tip once. Never again. The PDK is at least an order of magnitude better. I would suggest the Sport Chrono with the PDK to utilize all of its capabilities. The Sport Design steering wheel with paddles is also a vast improvement over the buttons IMHO.

As to the 6-speed vs PDK, that is personal preference. Drive both and you will know which is best for you.

PDK suits the turbo quite well.

Nick, do you commute into the city with your GT2 or just cruise around Rush with your 1000hp GT2! (just kidding with you...)

I commute in mine and mutli-task (& yes I should not be...) so Tip works for me! My left leg gave out when I used to commute in my 996TT...

I have never driven a PDK.
Take care!

Chicago is flat, so no hill starts. I can see bitching about a GT2 with a heavy pressure plate in a city like San Francisco but Chicago is no problem. When I lived in Hong Kong I had hill starts every day no matter what, with my Skyline GT-R and a heavy pressure plate in it that was not easy but I learned and adapted.

Living in the city has its perks, but driving nice roads is not one of them. Try driving lower Lake Shore Drive between Illinois and Grand with 1400lb springs in the rear, or actually drive down Grand or Illinois without launching the car "Dukes of Hazzard" style. At least lower Wacker is good now, getting onto the Ike and off from it is quick. Many roads around my home are only fit for SUVs unfortunately.

Lately I have been driving a lot into the burbs. Like two-four days a week. I'll drive the car that needs some use, so either the E55 or GT2 right now, rain or shine. The Touareg TDI is my wife's so I usually let her have it unless I'm floating around within 20 minutes of home. The S2K is out of state, the Skyline GT-R is down at Champion getting work done, and the E Type is being repaired (what Jag is ever truly road worthy, especially one built in 1966?)

The Tip can be tuned as well. This makes it much nicer over the stock TCM tune.
