If it's still not clear just post an I will take pictures of my removed piece and that should make it very clear.
To remove the boot from the console you need force. I use work gloves with lots of grip and yank the boot off. I can't seem to do it with bare hands (no grip) and with the gloves it's a breeze.
Than I completely lift the boot as high as possible and turn the plastic **** and you just pull the gear lever/boot off. Pay attention not to hit you in the face , it lets go rather sudden.

Just grab the boot itself and pull (with grip gloves). The leather is strong and it will hold.
Pull up front were the clips are, in the back you have tabs and they can brake.
