I am close to pulling the trigger on an upgrade...
Currently own a 2007 Cayman S.
Test drove a 2012 997tt today.
Question is: Do I buy the preowned 997tt with 11K miles on it or order a new
991 S with my choices (aerocup kit etc) for about the same price.
Advantages? more car for the money and already depreciated.
Disadvantages? I really don't NEED a turbo and mostly drive locally, not track. Maybe a smoother drive?
Thanks for opinions

AWD vs. RWD (winter considerations), handling vs. way more power/torque. TT can be tuned for even more.
I had the same dilemma and went for a 2011 TTS vs. a 991. The AWD and TT is really a lot of fun.

IMO this is a no brainer and the 997TT is the way to go...great car, comfortable, reliable...and very civilized around town unless you decide to get on it. Just do your due diligence on the used car, ie) PPI or get a CPO, etc.
I had an 996TT '01 for DD for 6 years, and now 6 years on a '07 997TT for DD...The only thing I did this time was order the Tiptronic since I go into the city with it.

This is such a tough decision. (happy to have such troubles in my life
)
I have flip flopped hundreds of times in my mind already.
Have driven both, love both for different reasons.
The build 991 S I would keep for a while, forever?
The 997tt I am thinking of getting, driving for a few years and then looking for a 991 S used at a better price. My mind just hates the depreciation hit of a new 991 right now, but what the heck, it's just money, right. Life is short.
I have found that the 991 S is a more "cushy" drive and more comfortable but the 997tt is sheer power. I don't mind the big feel to it. The 997 feels very similar to my CS.
Maybe I should take a vote like the audience in "Who wants to be a millionaire" but call it "who wants to spend 110K" and go with that.

I just traded a 991 C2S toward a 2011 Turbo S.
I'd do it again. And again. Every single time.
Don't get me wrong - the 991 is a great car. Perfect if you want the comfort of a Mercedes, newer electronic do-dads, in a reasonably nimble, relatively fast car. I discovered that was not what I wanted.
However, I still kept my Cayman R. Not even the top of the line 911 is as much fun to drive.

I dislike the high center console of the latest Porsche design language. That is my biggest pet peeve and a major deal breaker (for me). Pretty much eliminates Panamera (thank god), 991 and Cayenne from my list of cars to own.
For street the Turbo you are interested in should be a good value proposition- depreciated (used), more power for highway on ramps/acceleration, AWD for unpredictable weather/daily use if you have to deal with that sort of thing. If you look a bit more, you may be able to find one that is another MY or two older with a better price/value relationship. Get it CPO'ed, don't futz with it, and just drive it happily knowing the CPO will take care of you. When CPO runs out, get the dealer to re-up on a low cost, long term drivetrain warranty. Then drive it until that's done- by then you'll be fully confident whether or not the car is reliable or needs to be put out to pasture.

these are two completely different cars with different looks (styling is different, wide body vs narrow body, etc), the only thing that is comparable is the price
For me personally, the low end torque in base model and S 991 is lacking, heck before my eurpipe and softronic tune I wasn't thrilled with the sub 3K rpm torque in my 997 TT either (but those mods 100% improve the power and feel on the low end). To really get the most out of a 991 S you need to drive it on the upper range of the rpm range, while with a properly set up Turbo you have access to massive amounts of power and torque from 2K rpm all the way to redline. Try going from 60-100 in 5th gear in a turbo then try the same in a 991 S and you'll know exactly what we mean when we talk about 500-600 ft-lbs of torque in a properly set up turbo
anyway, you can tell that most of us on the forum are power/torque junkies

it may be different for you but it's always good to get different perspectives as you are doing here to help weigh all the variable before dropping a wad load of cash
good luck, look forward to learning about your final choice!

IMO you'll get used to either one quickly, and may find you want more power.......so I'd go for the TT....a very fun and fast car, and comfortable too...
and if it isn't a daily driver then surely the TT

I just did this. 991S. Almost as fast handles better more comfortable and a better DD. having said that mine will get traded soon for a new turbo.

I've owned a number of atmo 911's over the years and as quick as they've all felt on their day none of them come near the thrill of the turbo when that hammer drops. This is where i'm perfectly OK with not being in the lastest and greatest any day of the week. When the 991tt comes out that may be a different story. After the turbo im not convinced any atmo Porsche outside of a GT3 RS will subsitute the torque drop and generall invincibility the turbo car delivers in trafficable situations. It'd be hard to match..very hard.
