Default accident with 997 TT

was driving at 110 mph, night time, saw a yellow cat crossing the higway.

did not steer to either directions.

grabbed the steering Wheel harder and BANG.

Sound at the moment of the crash is unforgettable.,

Cat hit the middle of my front bumper.

Front bumper is damaged.

Coolant leaked. Arrived home by adding water to the system.

Are there 3 radiators, why 3? I believe my middle radiator is damaged....

Are all 3 coolant radiators, where is the oil cooler located?

Thanks God, I did not hit a person.

Even a tiny 6-7 LBS cat causes damage to the car.

3 radiators because the Turbo engine really puts out some heat and if the car equipped with a Tip this needs extra cooling as well.

Oil cooler located in engine bay somewhere on engine.

Too bad about the car but the damage is not severe. Too bad about the cat, but you did the right thing. Some would have (for understandable but wrong nonetheless) tried to dodge the cat and probably lost control. The resulting damage (or even driver injury/death) would make what you and your car experienced nothing in comparison.

When talking to a state trooper after my Turbo encountered a mule deer out in Nevada he told me it is not uncommon to find a car or truck wrecked and off the road because the driver tried to dodge a bunny rabbit that darted across the road. And sometimes the trooper told me there's no witness because the driver dies. There are places out there that one doesn't even want to think about going off the road at all.

That's bad news Mert. Doesn't pay to swerve so you did the right thing there. No point dying.

Hey what was the cat like afterward or is it sill in the radiators..?

have not seen the cat as the highway was flowing, could not stop.

I dont want to imagine hitting a pedestrian, God save all of us from hitting pedestrians.

Oh wow, congrats on the steel nerves not to swerve. I have wondered in the past how I would react, realizing that I must not swerve... but I worry that its a bit in human nature.
Dont think of what ifs. Think positive!

I do hope you fix it soon enough, good as new. Side radiators are aircon radiators I believe. Central one is the important one.

Paul, that was a bit gory of you... what was the cat like afterward? LoL. What do you think? He was doing 110 miles, that is 170kms! Reminds me of a joke: What is the last thing that goes through a flies brain as it hits the windshield of your car?

Nick, thanks a lot. Was planning driving to Greece this may. We might meet

I wonder what would happen if the cat would go under one of the front tires?

Would the Wheel lift off the ground and cause loss of control?

I have some feathers / hair from the cat on mu bumper

Doing 110 at night doesn't give you much time to swerve. You were very lucky.

Sure thing Mert, any time. PM me when you are planning the trip!
I think a cat is too small to cause an issue of losing control. Its tiny compared to the wheel. Or the car.

Sorry to hear about your accident.. And I have hit a person before and it was horrible. Too long of a story but many years ago an old man walked right out in front of my car in broad daylight. I couldn't avoid him. Luckily he wasn't seriously hurt but at the time I thought I had killed him.. Nasty nasty experience..

Hope you get your car fixed and I'm sorry that happened..

This is an odd post.

110 mph at nite....must've been a full moon as only a lunatic woulda done such.

That cat was only on its 8th life. Better watch out!!

i thought the two sides had the oil coolers with one side having an extra radiators for the air conditioning. The center one is the one with coolant. It needs this many radiators as the engine produces a LOT of heat and it is cocooned in the back without much airflow around it.

Glad you didn't get hurt, the car is fixable and cats are a dime a dozen :-)

The bi-xenon headlights -- on high beam -- on my 03 Turbo are certainly capable of projecting enough light to drive 110mph at night without any issues arising from lack of road illumination.

One can't use the headlights on high beam where there is traffic up ahead either on one's side of the freeway or on the other side of the freeway (read oncoming traffic) but when they can be used they are awesome.

I like to experiment out on the open highway and flip from low beam to high beam. Signs up ahead that are barely visible in the gloom are suddenly quite visible and legible when the high beams are on.

On some sections of for instance I-40 where the two directions split (or at times when traffic is so light like very late at night) I can flip the high beams on and have a very good view of the road and the shoulder and median for a long ways down the road. I do not know at what speed the headlights would become the limiting factor but based on my, err, testing 110mph ain't it.

Even closer to home on the lesser traveled roads/highways around Livermore through the hills/mountains the headlights on bright light up the road the countryside in fact like daylight.

Like I said above, the Turbo headlghts are awesome.

Interesting. I think the visibility is the main issue. Will have to see how the lights really work. It's much less of a risk to do that speed during the daytime, though.

visibility was not a problem.

highway was illuminated and cat was visible.

its an instant where the cat appears at 110 mph and it hits. Its called an instant, only way to avoid is drive very slowly.
