Default Turbo or Turbo S?

New to your forum, extremly informative. Looking to buy a 2011 turbo for everyday use, is the S suitable as a daily driver?

Absolutely. The PDK transmission makes it easy to use around town and in bumper to bumper traffic. It also has great visibility and the suspension won't loosen your teeth or break your back.

I've been searching and searching are there any engine internal differences or the whole "s" badge is strictly software?

You are not just getting software in the S. Other Turbo options are standard on the turbo S. PTV for one.

Understood! Because it comes bundled with all the options... Would it be considered a better value?

Looking to purchase and really want to do the homework... Thanks!

It depends on what options you "must" have. When I was shopping for a new 2011 Turbo by the time I added up all the options I wanted it was about the same price as the S. More importantly for me the S has 530hp v. 500hp and 516 lb.-ft of torque available all the time v. 480 lb.-ft or 516lb. if it has sport chrono package but only for 5 seconds or so. The following are standard or no cost options on the S but options on non-S: pccb brakes, sport chrono package, center lock RS Spyder wheels, dynamic cornering lights, ptv porsche torque vectoring, adaptive sport seats w/ memory, 6 disc cd/DVD player and PDK transmission. The S also has better 0-60 and 0-100 numbers. No hard evidence or stats, but I think the S holds it value a little better on re-sale. Bottom line- you can't go wrong with either one.

I asked the same thing a while ago on 6speed. in terms of engine and turbo, all the same, mostly software difference to derive the power delta. but the pdk + launch control is ridiculous in terms of 0-60 times if that appeals to you

but as others have stated you get a lot of options standard with the S

Doesn't the S come with the sport exhaust standard?

No.

Turbo S is a fine daily. I'm 52 years old and I've kept my daily TT S cab longer than any other car I've had. And I've had a **** ton of cars.

Actually the 997 TTS DOES come with Sport Exhaust. When you hit the sport button the baffles open up and the sound has the deep low resonance -though never a drone. Also the software in the PDK is different and not available thru aftermarket software. I use the 997 TTS as a daily driver including winter tires and it is awesome. Come Spring I drop the top and it is like having a new different car. I have driven a stock 997 TT as well as owning an 09' 997 TT with exhaust and software mods, neither come even close to the performance of the stock 997 TTS...IMHO

Someone feel free to chime and correct me if I am wrong. The Turbo versus Turbo S, (997.2) was mostly a large and pricey subset of options. You could actually build a Turbo to Turbo S spec but you would spend more money in the process. The Turbo S was a bunch of options bundled together that would have been more expensive if purchased a-la-carte in a normal Turbo. The S may have also picked up a slightly hotter ECU and some more aggressive transmission software.
