At times I do miss the top down driving, but I love the tight feel of the coupe. If I feel the desire, opening the sunroof gives me the satisfaction of the open air, without compromising my need for that secure, tight, cockpit drive. Hey their all great cars whether a cabriolet or a coupe. It's just personal desire.

Saddens me to see such a short term question about a long term quality car.

I averaged 10 years for the previous 2 Porsches, but they were not completely what I wanted due to financial commitments such as family and kids of college age. I might have stopped at a 993TT if I had one. Will probably go much longer in this one.

At 64K miles, not ready to start the depreciation slide again. Nothing against the 991TT, but the return on a higher price investment is just not there for me.

There is always going to be someone who has to have the newest, biggest, best... I feel the true lovers of these cars are not the 1st owner but the 2nd. Generally the 1st owners are just the people with the deepest pockets.

Just received front&rear brake discs/pads/fuel filter/ spark plugs/ v belt from suncoast.

Ive bought them from suncoast FL as the the Porsche Dealer in Istanbul charges 5000 USD for the brake replacement.

Purchased the spares although I dont need them now but keeping on my mind that I wont sell this baby 997 TT for at least 15 years. My first M3 E36 is still the garage queen with 60k miles.

So for me the answer is clear now: wont sell 997 TT.

When I bought my first 911 I would have driven it with 600cc deisel engine so please was I with cruising about in my shiny 997 C4S. I then went back to the raw thrust and simplicity of a final edition 260 Exige.

Like the prodical son you have to be away from the fathers house to fully realise how much you belong at home and although this example is much more meaningful than cars I would like to use the analogy respectfully and in the context of the post go on to say up went the for sale sign on the Exige and back to the fold with a pristine 6k Gen 2 C2S with PDK.

I then decided to buy the Turbo. I think it is at this point I decided I was here to stay if you like. My purchase was strategic and differed from all previous purchases which were no more than transient automotive indulgences.

The surge of the Turbo engine "completes" the 911 for me. It fully exploit's the design/ engineering/ image and perception of the marque. That's not to say the lower powered models are not fabulous cars or give their owners any less pleasure but for me the introduction of the Turbo power is the metaphorical "icing on the cake".

I say my purchase was strategic because I opted for an older model in order to get the Metzger engine. This engine has street cred now - and for good reason - I can only imagine by the time these cars are thinner on the ground this feature will be amplified. I also bought a manual because I anticipate - rightly or wrongly - it will become more desireable in a future market of ECU controlled switchgear.

Someone once said in engineering terms everything about a 911 is wrong yet the reality is people kept driving them and today like minded people will break the bank to afford them. Porsche are now I believe fully established as petrolhead fantasia. The 991 is no doubt fast and capable etc etc but corporate terminology like "consumer grade" mechanicals IMO almost begins to degrade the perception of the car.

If the trend remains consistent, the further Hans Metzger slides into the history books the more amplified his legacy will become. This is the unique feature of our cars as they stand and something that will not be present in future 911 ownership. Legends grow with time not diminish.

I fully appreciate a lot of what I have implied is negated by the fact this is a mass produced model but IMHO car enthusiasts love motorsport heritage and that heritage will end in the 997.1T.

As a car fan I consider myself blessed to be able to see out my favourite leisure pursuit in a world famous marque with tangible motorsport pedigree. For what it's worth, competences notwithstanding, future 911's will become more products than legends if that makes sense.

This is subjective obviously, everyone is different. As far as the OP's question when will be a good time to sell ; it's a reasonable one. If you don't find any of the opinions expressed so far, compelling enough to consider staying with it, then I can only imagine those with a financial agenda will tell you the iminent arrival of the 991 devalue's your car and when the it actually arrives these sentiments will intensify.

FWIW, I think there will be possibly quite a few people thinking the same way as me which may cause a late surge in demand for the 997.1. I can only imagine the closer to the release of the new one you leave it the less room for manoeuvre you will have.

Rob.
