Default Please help me understand wheel offsets

Is the lower number more agressive? is that becaue the wheel sticks out of the fender more? What is the optimum agressive offsets for our 997 turbo's?
Stock ride height now but I do want to lower it.

thanks again....

I know im thick headed when it comes to wheels

And many more to be found , google is our friend.

Yes, lower number is more aggressive and sticks out more. You got it !

Max. offset depends on width of wheel (and tire size). I have a 12" ET45 and that is the max. for me. Fills the arches just about perfect. My car is not lowered. Once lowered they'll move in a little. But still will be ok.
On an 11" you can go lower (more aggressive offset) , I think some have ET38.
I think you would be most happy with 11.5 ET45-48 with a 305. Even lowered this would look good.

Thanks again Denis. I think I also read that you recommend +53 for stock front tire size with 8.5 rim...is that correct?

I've also read that people are using +45 front and +40 rear...
How does that work?

That would be a good ET to combine with ET45 in the back.
In fact that is what I have now , ET53 front and ET45 back.

You need a balance between looks and ride. The above Et's are neglecting the latter.

The minor offset adjustments wont have an effect on ride quality.

+51 front/ +35 rear are pretty common, and anything close will be fine.

You misunderstood what I said. Both ET's are pushing it. Not the one versus the other.
In other words, the wheels stick out too much. You'll gain clearance by lowering but still.
And indeed, ride 'quality' (as in comfort) will not suffer much. But 'ride' (meaning road holding , turn in, steering feel, oversteer-understeer balance) will suffer if you move away from 'ideal' offset.
But I have had that discussion before so not going to tire people with it again.

The offsets I listed are what HRE uses for some of their wheels (8.5", 11"). They fit perfectly well on stock height and lowered cars.

As far as the performance aspect, they also worked quite well.
