Default PCM dies (again)

Got up this morning to take the car in to the dealer to replace the accumulator (again.) When I started the car I got a message on the PCM screen that said “System Error” Amplifier, Navigation, CD changer, phone not available”.

Ruh oh… … I took it to my eealer and showed the message to my friend the service manager.. He laughed and said “it’s dead”. I'll throw in new one in there". Man! This will be the second PCM unit that will have been replaced in that car in two years... The first time was for a faulty eject mechanism for the CD. This time it appears to be fatal software issue.. Thank God it happened when I still had a warranty…

My warranty expires in 3 weeks. Very good timing indeed...

Mine exploded during a Porsche tour with a local club. That was back in '07 when the car was a few weeks old. My first turbo, not the one I own now.
You are indeed lucky you're still covered.

Update.. Getting the car back today.. They not only replaced the radio unit but the navi module as well.. And the accumulator and seat belt retracting mech...

Negotiating another 2 years of coverage with the dealer... Seems like good insurance. Especially since it's my DD...

I like the new Cayenne I'm driving but I can't wait to get my car back...

Thats good news. Keep me posted on your negotiations I'm curious to know what it costs to extend your warranty through the dealer.

Okay this is what they want to extend the warranty another 2 years.. $4,200 plus $350 for an ispection plus an oil change and coolant flush at dealer prices (they said they need to do this because they need to show at least part of the 60k service..) This wil take the price tag over $5000. I think that is a bit much. I think I'm going to pass......

Feels good to drive my baby again! That car is so amazing....

I don't suppose there was ever the possibility to upgrade to a newer PCM? Dealer told me twice no, but I still hope.

Why don’t you replace the head unit with a modern aftermarket one like Alpine or Kenwood? Touch screen, Bluetooth, Apple car play etc. And they are relatively cheap.

Well, I guess you would know from starting your own. I did however find out that in my '12 'it could have' read Turbo S (as I think it did). There is a switch w/in the programing that triggers Turbo S graphic -- I am waiting to see for myself.

SOmeone bumped an 8 year old thread to ask a somewhat related question.
