997.1 TT vs 997.2 C2S...opinions?

I'm close to buying one of these cars and am on the fence as to which way to go. I know there are going to be some biased results here, but I'm curious anyhow as to your opinions. On one side, I've always heard to go with the newest P-car you can afford, so that would be a nicely optioned 2009 C2S. My wife needs the automatic and I like the PDK, so this seems like a good choice. Plus there are no IMS issues, it's easier to find CPO, etc. As far as the 997.1 TT, I know you can't go wrong with the Metzger engine, and the added power is a nice bonus, but the tip is not as well received, and it doesn't have as many of the refinements as the 997.2. So, what are your opinions? For those of you who have driven both, please compare and contrast. Thank you!

"and the added power is a nice bonus". For me, this was the most important part of your post. For me and I would bet most 997 TT owners, the added power IS the primary reason to own a 911 Turbo over a C2S. 500+ ft-lbs of torque alone was reason enough for me, the rest of the options were secondary considerations, but this is my weekend car and not a DD so everyone's equation varies.

I own a 997.1 Turbo and love it. I've driven the same car with a tip on the track and was very impressed with the performance. You should really drive both and buy what makes you and your wife happy. I have driven a 997.2 with the PDK and liked it but there is no substitute for the power IMO. The turbo is kick in the *** fast and while the C2S is plenty quick you can't compare the two.
If this is your first P car you can't go wrong with either.

Great and timely post for me, as I am looking at the same decisions. Owned a 997.2 Carrera S Cab for a few years, and always found it willing to rev and very quick.
Drove an 07 TT today and was less than impressed I have to say. Motor doesn't like to rev it seems and although it may be faster if you really get into the turbos hard I have to say I didn't feel the extra 100 hp. I am wondering if there was something not right with the TT (even though it was a CPO)...

Agreed. The TT is a 200 mph BEAST. My engine revs much freer than my 997.1 C2S and when you get the revs above 3000 (allow the turbos to spool up) and punch it, it throws you back and you get a crazy grin on your face. And there's an incredibly solid feel about the car. Best car I've own so far.

now if that sequence doesn't plant you in your seat, elevate your heart rate and make your palms sweaty then there is something wrong with the TT you test drove
in my experience the car is designed to be driven at 3000 rpm, unless you are cruising. below 3000 rpm it is a mild car, but 3000+ rpm the power and torque are on demand and brutal

I hear you guys, but there is a difference in the power delivery that can make a normally aspirated car feel faster than it is, and the exhaust sound on the NA car helps too.
I've owned a 997 GT3 as well so maybe I just like NA cars?

Night and day between a NA porsche and a TT porsche. As other have said if it didn't throw you back in the seat and you didn't hear the whistle of those sweet turbos spooling then something is wrong with the car. You really have to hit the gas pedal hard and not just roll into it.
