Default H & R springs question

I know that many of you have the H & R springs on your TT's.. I recently installed mine and just got a proper alignment. The car drives and corners fantastic.

I have only one issue with them.. (besides having to buy my spoiler lips in "six-packs") In very low speed turns I hear a "popping" coming from the suspension..

It sounds like possibly the control arm. It's very distracting and irritating. Has anyone else had theis issue after lowering your car?

If so what is the remedy? (if there is one.)

As usual I appreciate your input..

Phillip

No such sound Philip.
And I am quite happy with the lip scrapping, its not that bad. Just approach at an angle. I see myself with a new one every year!

Nick,

Thanks for the feedback.. I'm quite careful with the spoiler lip but unfortunetly I STILL manage to grind it down.. I'll have to look into my noise...

Nick,

Thanks!

I have H&R springs on my car as well.
Sometimes when I drive out of the garage (then I have to turn the wheels fully to the right) I hear the popping sound from the front. Does not happen every time though.
I do not buy any lips, but everytime I drive into my garage I scrap the underneath of the front lip. Nothing is visible outside. Also, I've learned to drive diagonally.

Is this a serious problem that really has to be addressed?

Thanks Nick.. Under further inspection is seems that my upper strut bushings are shot.. Luckily for me my friend has a new set lying around and he is going to install them for me..

As for tires I'm going to try the new Michelin Super Sports this time. Two of my Porsche friends have them and love them. We'll see...

Yeah, a set of adjustable front sway bar links will cure a lot of the popping noise problems. If you need a set I will be happy to give you a note on a set.

It has been diagnosed that both of my upper strut mount bushings need to be replaced... Too bad for me because it's an $800 job (parts, labor and alignment.) They rubber portion is torn and they are basically "metal to metal".. A friend of mine installed the springs for me.. He apparently must have done something wrong.. Lesson learned.. Never have friends work on your car.. Even if they have the same car and tear it apart regularly. It gets too complicated if something goes wrong... Now I have to eat $800 bucks .. Not too happy about that...

Denis,

It turns out they were used bushings. I was not going to put used parts on my car.. He is very knowledgable and a friend.. He can't figure out what happened or what would cause the bushings to fail.. Lesson learned.. An expensive one but they usually are...

Than I would attribute it to Murphy's law and not of any wrong doing.
Maybe your friend can install the parts and safe on labor. Go to a reputable tire shop and safe on the alignment as well.
Good luck !

Thanks Denis.. I'm having my indie do the work this time. He's a great guy and took pity on me.. He's going to install new bushings and align the car for $750. Good price considering the parts are $300 and it's 3.5 hours labor and $195 for alignment..
