Twice now in the past week I've pulled the shift **** off going into second gear (full throttle start)
. Don't tell me I'm yanking on it to hard, the first time it happened because the excelleration pulled me back into my seat.
It appears that it just snaps on, isn't there a hold screw to keep it in place?

No screw for the std ****. You put it in sideways and turn it 90o to lock with the collar. The manual shifter has a gap in the upper part. 996 cars had the pull off issue..
