The TT is a bulletproof car. Sure there are a few things that can go wrong, as per wise Macster's post, but they usually dont. For quite some time, this should be a tires, oil and every so often brakes.

Having said that, Murphy's law says what can go wrong will go wrong. But it is not the norm. Get the car. There is ABSOLUTELY NO COMPARISON between the feel of the n/a car (whether 2S or 4S) and the turbo. The price to trade in the S for the TT has one label. Its called "tuition". Ask me how I know... If you dont believe me, just pay it.

Thanks for that info Dianic... that is exactly what I was looking for....

as I mentioned earlier... tires and oil changes are not my concern... is the reliability of the car which sounds to be a solid car.

thanks guys for the help and info... I was trying to decide between a 997.1TT or a GT-R... but I think I might have made up my mind.... I think it will be the 997TT... I will continue to do some research just to be sure but its looking good so far.

Here is one more for you. The 911 is a keeper, if you believe in such things. The GTR is not. You will end up trading it in a few years. For a 911. And the price difference will also be "tuition"!!

Good luck. The search is almost as enjoyable as ownership.

I know this is way wrong, its probably 1/10th of that amount, if that. I hope a 997TT owner can provide some actual facts to assure ledd4u.

Mine was $1012 at the dealer.

Oil, filters, cabin filters, brake fluid, plugs.

Sounds reasonable for a P- Car. You can always do the basic maintenance yourself.

Tires, brakes and oil. The drivetrain is bulletproof.

Depends. While I have my 03 Turbo's oil/filter done every 5K miles and tires whenever (15K or more miles rears, double that miles for the fronts) the Turbo sucks.

No really.

Because the car's huge need for cooling air (I'm not complaining because thankfully the Turbo runs cool due to the superior cooling) the car acts like a road vacuum cleaner and the radiator ducts at each corner and the one in the centger get alot of trash in them. Every time I take the car in for its oil/filter service I ask the tech to blow the trash out which he does. Then at least once year instead of the air blow cleaning I ask the tech to remove the bumper cover and thoroughly clean out the trash. Costs me an hour's labor but worth it.

Also, the techs clean the water drains and make sure all drain water ok.

Brake fluid gets flushed/bled every 2 years.

And the engine intake air filter, the cabin filter, and the fuel filter all get replaced at the scheduled miles or time.

Buying one of these cars with the assumption proper servicing is just an oil/filter change every so often is buying one of these cars with the wrong assumption of what proper servicing entails.

Sincerely,

Macster.

Wow! Great thread and a bunch of really good info here. If I may add as a new 997TT owner you may want to look into your local PCA region to help...for instance being a member of ours here gets you an oil service at the dealership for $119.95 and brake fluid flush for 99.95...other local dealers offer discounts on parts, etc...and being a member only cost you $46 a year. Not sure if those are deals but it seems like it after things I have read???

Kept a spreadsheet for the first 100K miles from new, of my 993. Everything was in it. About $1.22/mile

I buy a new Porsche every 10 years, drive the wheels off it, rinse and repeat.

I quit doing the spreadsheet because it took the fun away.

As many have suggested....mostly routine maintenance. They do tend to eat up tires pretty quickly and they are not cheap. Also plan for Spark Plug change as that is an expensive ordeal...Labor is usually
$1000 - 1500 + plugs etc.. Another very costly issue is the rear wing...the hydraulics will go out and are several thousand $$ to replace.

Those are the scariest repairs...But these are very solid and fast cars...worth every penny

My 30k mnx was around $1000-$1200, and that included rebuilding the mechanism on the rear spoiler which had a small leak at the time. I've paid a bit more in mnx related to upgrades such as alignment and dogbones after lowering. I was unlucky enough to have the coolant hose problem which cost about $6k since I had other work done while the engine was out. Finally I had a $3k bill related to electrical issues which I believe I caused while installing the intercoolers. Routine mnx has not been bad, it's the upgrades and repairs related to that which have cost the most.
