Clear Guard Advice Needed

Default Clear Guard Advice Needed

Hi I'm set on installing some clear guard on my TT. I was hoping those of you who have done it can provide some insight on what areas you'd recommend installing it on and what areas don't need it. Here are the areas I'm considering and those that have been recommended to me by the installer.

1. Clear Bra
2. Front Lights (including LED's and Fog Lights)
3. Front Hood (XPEL)
4. Front Fenders (XPEL)
5. Side Skirt / Door Entry Area all the way up to the area above where the stock 3m is
6. Rocker Panel
7. Doors (this was my idea cause we get a lot of dumb ppl that like to key cars when parked in public spots where im sending this car overseas)

These are the ones I'm seriously questioning getting done: 2, 5, 6 and 7

I recommend doing the whole front hood. I only did a 1/4 of mine and regret it. I give you one guess where I have 2 small stone chips. Plus you won't see the line if you do the whole hood. Prior to this car I was against clear bra, but I'll never go without it now. I also recommend having it put on before you take delivery so you won't have chips underneath it and make sure installer is good. You may want to look into having the windshield done, they seem to pit easily.

I did the exact same install as shown in the link below (same shop too) on a black 997.1 Turbo - looks great.

Ok so definitely do the entire front hood. Include the lights as well?

ny judgements on the other stuff? Have any of you got issues on other parts of your car you wish had a clear film?

Recommend full frontal including hood (assuming they can do the hood with one piece - Xpel and other can, but there are a few vendors with material not wide enough). I didn't do the lights.

and your lights have been fine? no pock marks or anything?

I had following done on mine:

Full hood
Complete front bumper and the lip
Full front fenders
Headlights & fog lights
Rocker panels
Quarter panels in front of rear wheels

if you dont mind me asking did you use XPEL on the hood and fenders? And how much did it cost you?

For what you had done I'm being quote around $1700

Venture shield on the hood and XPEL on the rest and yes it was around $1800..

However, if i was to do this again, i would stick with just one kind though...

Ok cause the guy thats doing it only recommends XPEL for the hood and fenders but more rugged orange peal textured vinyl for the bumper and areas closer to the asphalt.

I think he knows his stuff but I'm still iffy on the lights, doors and door sills.

ON my 996 tt I noticed some rock (very minor, but we are all ****) chips/marks just in front of real wheels. This from what the front wheels kick up. Of course, this is the area lacking of film on my car. This at 11k miles. I have some good hits on front hood, protected by filim.

Either have to slow down or get a double 3M flim protection on your car.. I would have to blame Kevin for those rear rocker panel rock chips

Khalid I remember you are shipping the car outside the US. Where to?
Clear protection in my view is necessary under conditions. Lots of highway, potentially wet weather to prompt lose debris from the road, etc. If you are going warm, I am afraid what that film will look like after a year or so baked in the sun, and how easy it will be to remove.

Finally, if there is little chance of wet weather and debris damaging your car, all this simply preserves your paint for the next buyer... Live the car.

Make sure you ask them to use Xpel ultimate. The one and only self healing film in the market. My entire car is wrapped in paint protection film and I mean every inch of paint. I went with ventureshield two years ago but if I were to do it now, without a doubt it would be xpel ultimate.
