Hello Cincinnati

these people drive me nuts. Why dont your confront them? ask exactly what this entails, and then just tell them what it means, stressing that they just lost a potential customer. Talk to the manager direct.
I know it is not our job to educate amateurs, but just letting them get away with it is infuriating...

Sounds as though you got one of the tools they have on their sales floor. I bought two cars there, and had service done. Had good experiences with a sales guy named Jeff Paul who is very low key. Fred in the service department is a nice friendly honest guy. He is the main reason I went back there for the second car.
That being said, I have also dealt with a couple super slimy sales people at Kings too. You can tell they are bad news before a word comes out of their mouths. I forget the managers name, but he did a decent job helping me when Jeff Paul was out having bypass surgery. I forgot what his name is.

He paid the deposit that night after I left. Not sure why they would say deposit first.
Fred in service is excellent and honest if you are still looking
I go to The Village but Fred is solid. Sales guys, not so much
