Default 997 tt cab or new 991 cab?

(cross posted in 991 forum)

If you can get a 2009-10 997 tt cab (manual or a pdk) for $120k-ish (depending on year) would you rather have that than a new 991 cab (not a turbo)?

Why? And if you sold it in 3 years I wonder which would lose less money?

And which more fun to drive?

Thinking of a 2009.

The pre-owned would lose less money as it has already taken a significant depreciation hit...especially if you are talking 09...of course other factors that impact depreciation will be how many miles you put on it...PDK vs. manual and then whatever options you get in the 09....assuming it will be well maintained...Turbos will always have cache when it is time to sell it...the 991 will be a fabulous car but when it comes time to sell it will just be another convertible 991...and Porsche will sell a ton of these again!

i took the 2010 turbo cab instead of waiting. good deal in front of me and i like aspects of the 2010 over the 991. - interior etc

go for a 2010 it has the new engine mounts - the DFI engine - both unchanged in the 991

Are there any simple/inexpensive suspension mods for the 997.1 tt to make it handle better? At least as good as the 997.2 tt?

thanks,

One more thought (you will read about this, and may or may not have an opinion)...the '09 is the last of the true GT1 derived block Turbo engines. Starting with '10 Turbos, they are beefed up 997 blocks. Not that this is bad, but the old time-tested GT1 derived turbo blocks seem to be the holy grail for turbo owners.

And yes, a good tuner can help you adjust the suspension to your liking with various aftermarket products.

The Panamera-derived interior of the 991 is off-putting to me. I pulled the trigger last week on a 11 Turbo cab. The new interior (991) is just too much like a luxury car for my taste. It seems to correspond to the marketing that Porsche is doing. It appears they are targeting BMW and baby Benz folks (receding hairline executive in a parking garage and mom picking up the kids in a yellow Turbo?). I am assuming the feel content that they do not need to address the hard-core marque advocates but need to grow the market. The cost, to me anyway, seems to be the loss of the classic, utilitarian aspect of the machine and it's interior functionality. So, I went for the 997.2.

LOL! I boughta 996, because I thought the 997was too plush for a sports car. I wanted something I wasn't afraid to work on.

I guess in a few years people will be buying 991s because the new 99xs will be too plush.
