So I spent a week driving everything under the Sun. I know the mantra, buy it and enjoy it, you will lose money. However, just like I'd never buy an AMG new, I try to minimize my losses.
R8- single clutch auto- sucked, like SMG with a left-sided stroke
R8- manual- brilliant, great exhaust note but soft, slower than my E55.
Ferrari 430- auto tranny- again SMG with a stroke and not doing rehab
RS4- I was bored, it was soft and a cab
GTR- great car. Uninvolving. Sounds like the backroom and a machine shop. But have you ever been to a Nissan service shop? It's a great deal and all but Nissan America does not have the culture to care for this car properly.
NOW
GT3 2011- great car. loved the engine note. Exact if stiff shifter. Clutch is hard. I didn't get used to it. Honest, linear power delivery. You can feel how much grip the rears have in them. But not a great daily IMHO.
2007-8 Turbo - A bit of lag. PCM is antiquated but usable. A bit soft.
2010 Turbo with PDK - Doesn't have the celebrated engine. Not as god a deal as the 997.1 TT but the PDK does mask the turbo lag well and makes its use as a commuter (50 miles/day) for me easier. The updated PCM is good, but that's more icing.
So I'm dropping my coin on a CPO'd 2010 TT and plan on driving the Hell out of it (a few DE are scheduled down here).
And yet I'll miss the RS60. The sport exhaust, the PASM, the near perfect handling (until the Cayman R and Spyder came about). I've actually driver a RUF Boxster with the 355 hp engine in it and it was brilliant...thoughts of a 400 hp DI Cayman dance in my head...

great summary soft - spot on on 997.1tt - requires semi-solid engine mounts and sways out of the box. in terms of lag - anything turbo has it, you do have to drive in higher revs to minimize it. good luck !!
