I usually get about 16.5 mpg @ 28 mpg on my urban cycle.

I mixed a half tank rotgut 91 and a half tank 100 to get around 95 octane. I did twice the usual daily boost checks because of the kick in the pants, yet got better gas mileage.

Now to justify the $8/gallon - actually $6 if you count the blended average.

Anybody else have similar experience?

I get that weekly with 93 octane they sell here in Houston. Not sure what my average speed is but I do try to test the boost guage as often as possible. Triples multiple times a week.

You guys with your fancy, shmancy 997 Turbos. Terry CONSISTENTLY gets about 20% better fuel mileage than Rufus in exactly the same driving on our several road trips. Its starting to really **** me off. And I know the reason... Rufus has 8:1 compression, 2 valves, and no variable valve timing. Dang technology.

To confirm Steve's comments, here was my screen at the end of our Colorado trip. I had to do some local driving to get the speed down from 71 before I posted the pic. This mpg included some high speeds ( on a race track in an undisclosed western state, of course), boost check on every on ramp, and plenty of spirited mountain driving.

i get 19.5 mpg at 95-125 mph up and down road tripping, just did malibu-sundance-jackson and back in the turbo s. i'm fine with that. without all the sudden acceleration i bet it'd be 22 mpg

New 2011 911 Turbo S Black Couple/first Porsche owner.Bump up from Corvette ZR1 and Gen 4 Viper.Love the Porsche/PDK.Question,will the 100 octane unleaded race fuel make the TS faster and will it hurt the car ???? Yes ,I know it is 10.00 a gal. The TS is a weekend toy so I would put it in if it made a difference.
Second Question,car has 630 miles on it,what is the real number I can do the launches /a little drag racing ???

With regard to 100 octane: where do you live? What is the octane in the premium fuel in your area? How much ethanol is in your fuel.

you won't hurt your car by running 100 octane unleaded fuel, but your car is probably optimized for 95 octane. So you can blend in enough 100 octane with the 93 to yield 95... its a straight ratio. In california, with 91 octane premium, we can really feel the difference with a 95 octane blend. I'm not sure if your butt-o-meter will feel the difference from 93. Oh. remember that your ECU will take a bit of time to "learn" that you have a better grade of fuel. At least, that's the way it is on the ancient 993TTs.

What about the break in thing????? Dealer/Machanic told me on the side all you need is 500 miles.Said turbo are broke in and dynoed at factory.

No, they're not. The engines are run in a bit -- and word is not as much as they used to be -- at the factory to check the engines out before installing them into a car but they are not broken in.

Follow the break in. The engine will love you for it. Sure a *hard* or agressive break in might have the engine making max power sooner but at a possible cost in lower peformance and other negatives down the line.

Unless the owners manual forbids it change the oil early at least at the end of break in so when you do start to open the engine up more you do so with fresh/clean oil in the thing.

^What Macster said. Especially if you keep your Porsche an average 10 years 160K miles.

I did my break in by the book, and did not press the Sport button till 2501 miles.

I think some portion of the break in is for the benefit of the driver, most of whom have never driven a car with that kind of performance.

I have spooled the turbos up a bit in sport mode from a roll for a couple of seconds,but shut it off.It is very easy to drive esp coming from a stick Viper and ZR1s.I am getting the oil and filter changed next week,so it will be fresh.
Car will have about 700 miles on it then.I will wait til about 1000 miles and then play more.Car in not a DD,it would take me years to get 2500 miles on it.Thanks for the info you all.
