I'm not real pleased with the Bose system that came with the car but don't want to compromise the factory look, functionality, or spend a bunch of money. Have any of you found good upgrades that meet those requirements?
I knew it was going to be a step down from what I'm used to (Focal/ADS, etc.) but its pretty significant...
Cheers

The 997 cars are inherently noisy and, unless you plan to listen while parked, any audiophile level improvement to the current Bose system would be a waist of money. The most recent Bose systems in 997 is pretty good already and it is much better than it used to be in the 996 model.
Enjoy the car for it is, modding is a slippery slope and at the end no perfection is ever achievable.

already upgraded the exhaust. sounds fantastic and its a better tune than any song. But, I'm a huge music lover and there's nothing better than cruising fast with tunes cranked through a system that really rocks. However it looks like Porsche designed it so that its not really upgradeable. No biggy. Just curious.
love the beer emoticon. cheers!

I too like music and am an audiophile but the guy is right in a car it's a waste. You ought to hear how crummy the bose system is in my 599.

respectfully disagree. i had an amazing system i built in my M3. Focal separates that basically replaced factory drivers in the doors and kick panels, JL Audio made steath box subwoofers that replaced the drivers in the rear decklid and took zero trunk space, powered by an 8 channel ADS amp and it was fantastic without sacraficing any functionality at all.
I do hear that the new 458 finally put a decent system in it.
anyway, looks like options dont exist. I'll survive

i Am pretty sure you can upgrade the speakers like you had done in the BMW, along with the amp. The tricky bit is the factory sub, but with proper crossovers it could sound ok. Why dont you visit a good shop hear what they have to say? I am sure there are options...
Have you tried fiddling with the sound options and play with the DSP functions? sme like it on, some off. Its in the sound settings at the bottom of the screen.
Maybe its been a while since I had a nice system, but I dont think the bose is that bad. Certainly an upgrade from my previous c4s non bose...

Kevnz911,
Did you find anything that you like? The speakers that are in the car are of good size, and I'm sure you can find something that you like.
You mentioned the Focal separates in a message above. The door on your car has a 8" woofer, 3" mid, and the dash has the tweets. I'm sure you can get the Focal three way separates in there!
Don't give up...
Mike

You can not replace the amp since it is on the MOST ring, unless you replace everything else on the ring (head unit, Nav, CDC, etc).
You could explore a JL Audio Clean Sweep and a seperate amp to modify the Bose EQ performed by the DSP in the amp.
There are dozens of threads in the 996 forums (NA and Turbo) as well as Boxster and Carrera, since MOST was introduced in 03 across all models and has remained the same. These threads discuss aftermarket replacements, etc.
