Default turbo S tire options

I have 3,800 miles on my car and its bridgestone RE050A tires are nearing the end. (I have been doing extra hot laps around the clinic parking complex in an effort to speed the demise of the unloved bridgestones!) I have been disatisfied with the road noise and ride of the Bridgestones, but relatively happy with the grip. Contemplating the tried and true Michelin PS2's vs the new pilot super sports ( vs less likely Pirelli corsa systems for max grip). Any feed back from users of the above would be appreciated. I noticed the wear rating on the new super sports is higher than the old PS2's which makes me nervous grip will be less. Also any experience with the super sports vs PS2's re road noise and ride would be appreciated. The car is my daily driver and the noise from the bridgestones is pretty tiresome when I'm not flogging the car.

The PS2's are ~$650 more than the supersports. If there is a significant advantage in grip or comfort to the PS2's, I don't mind the extra cost. If they are essentially equal, I'll keep the money and get the Supersports.

Any feedback would be appreciated from users of any of the above tires in our cars

Thanks,
Patrick

I had about 9 years and 150K of PS2 on my 993, and now 50K on my TT. Big PS2 fan.

Soon as my current set of PS2 are done in a couple K miles, I'll be trying the new Super Sports.

Judging from your other vehicles and concern about grip, I would put a set of PS2 on before they quit making them, if they do quit.

At 3800 miles per set, it won't be long till it's time to change anyway.

You might not be able to buy MSS's in your size as they have a limited line up so far

I'm sure you're still under factory warranty so consider that PS2's are N-rated and PSS are not. I recently took Pirelli P-Zero's off after 5,000 miles and replaced with PSS. My car is not under warranty so non-N rating didn't bother me. Pirelli's were harsh riding, noisy and I could never get them properly balanced even with a great shop using the latest Hunter equipment. PSS are great. BTW, PSS sizes for the TT are available - 235/35-19 F and 305/30-19 R.

I would stick with ps2 n rated if I were you. The MSS are not n rated, until they are I would pass.

I am not willing to put up with the ride and hydroplaning of the cups. (This car gets no track time.) Appreciate the feed back re the pss and ps2's. Thanks for all your input.

I drove on cups exclusively on my 07 tt (except winter). They were the N rated variety, which are a harder cmpd and have an additional rain groove. I never experienced hydroplaning or excessive wear vs ps2s. The N rated cups are street tires, unlike the old school, non N cups where you have true white knuckle driving with the slightest rain.

Could also try RE-11's. I've had RE050A's, PS2's and now the RE-11. They are better in every way than the PS2's and RE050A's.

The only downside to them is they are heavy.

^
The MPSS are 2# each front and 3# each rear heavier than the PS2. Slightly more tread depth.

How are the ride and road noise of the RE-11's compared to the ps2's? My car is bone stock. (No exhaust mods to drown out tire noise.) I care at least as much about ride and noise as I do about grip. Not looking for the last second on track. I have race cars for that.
Thanks

At 8700 miles its time. My car came w michelin ps2 which seem fine and didnt flat on bad dirt roads. Most of the wear is acceleration, little cornering . I expect this to continue w high speed road trips up and down in speed sudddenly. This usage is Somewhat different than those above.

I could just replace the ps2 but wanted your views on alternatives. Tyre rack offers al these choices:

Thanks watt

I don't remember any significant increase in noise or a worse ride with the RE-11's vs. the PS2. I thought they were just as good in those areas. I do have exhaust so not sure if that is hiding anything.

If you don't care about every bit of grip, and would consider a non N spec tire (RE-11 is non n spec), then the MSS might be a good choice. Personally, I love the RE-11.

I ordered a set of Pilot Super Sport, due for install next Tuesday. I'll check back in here after a few weeks.
