Default L.A. to Vegas dilema...

I have to go to Las Vegas this weekend and would love to drive my new Turbo considering I only have 1100 miles on it in 3 months. However, I am really paranoid at self -parking it at the Mandalay Bay or just as freaked out at valet parking.I was thinking of giving the head valet guy 100 bucks for the weekend and maybe he will let me park it in valet and let me keep the keys.I arrive Saturday morning and will not need the car till I leave Monday morning.Think this idea would work?Is self parking safe or could someone just screw with the car after having to many cocktails.Thoughts would be appreciated.

You can ask. Chances are the answer will be no. The valets need the keys in case the car has to be moved.

What's wrong with self parking? I haven't been in all of the hotel/casino parking garages on the strip but the ones I have been in have oodles of room.

I always climb the levels until I reach one that has plenty of empty spaces. Go real slow though cause people are walking about and can walk right in front of your car.

Or park the car at another location -- parking lot? Or at another hotel/casino where you feel the parking's easier and then take a cab to where you want to go.

Let's see... Use a valet or a LV cab? Both suck, but at least with the cab only your wallet (overcharging bastards!) or your life is in danger.

Thus enjoy the cab ride knowing your car is safe, and is not being abused by the valet staff.

Oh, yes, I just saw your comment about too many cocktails. Definitely put the car someplace safe and take a cab. I hardly every once I'm in LV use my car. I park it up and leave it alone until I'm ready to leave town.

If I need to go any distance I'll use a cab.

With 'too many cocktails' you risk the car, yourself, another person in another vehicle or walking, etc. or a DUI.

Nope. Park the car up nice and comfy and take a cab.

Then drink all you want.

Or arrange to stay the M. Inn where you want to go so you don't have to even take a cab. Just an elevator.

Sincerely,

Macster.

I was at Mandalay Bay recently and I think their garage is actually fairly decent as far as finding an end spot, or other spot with only one car on the other side. There's a lot of concrete pillars and they have elevators into the garage at a few points. I thought there was a decent flow of people through there too.

I try to park near the elevators in the area there by the entrance that has The Red Square just inside the base floor doors. Actually you walk outside the entrance by Red Square and walk maybe 30 secs to the elevators.

I live here. Just self park at the Mandalay Bay. I self park at all the strip hotels without a problem in the 5 years I have had my Porsche. Mandalay Bay has plenty of parking with good lighting and lots of end spots.

If you want to bribe the valet, $20-40 will be more than enough.....You trust the valet with your car????

Thanks for the responses..I think I will self park.Just worry about some drunk idiots late at night that just want to damage the car because of jealousy.I will keep my fingers crossed.

Good choice, I would not valet any type of sports car after watching the valet guys park the cars. I watched for a good 15 mins from my vantage point in the self park section as the valets would screech to a halt, slam the transmission in reverse while not coming to a complete stop and back into the stall. Of course this was done out of sight of the customer. Also, I heard of a story at the Palms where one of the valets wrapped a turbo around a pillar.

It is a dilemma. How about the local dealership for weekend storage or maybe a fellow board member in LV has a spare garage space.

Was at a SF bay area Jaguar dealer the other day. The dealer charges $100/day for car storage.

Here's hoping the LV Porsche dealer ain't as greedy.

Sincerely,

Macster.

Its a car, the only thing faster than Your car is its depreciation. Make sure to drive the bleep out of it...only way to get the true return out of these vehicles...if You don't, You are missing the real joys of ownership.

Now dont go out there, get drunk, and door ding some poor souls Toyota...lol
