Default Change in sound with Sport mode in turbo S?

I have an '11 Turbo S. When sport mode is engaged, there is a difference in sound inside the cabin. At idle in park the sound shift is noticable (ie not just due to the car downshifting while in motion). At highway speed there is a perceptible increase in resonance as well relative to the standard mode (even when the car stays in the same gear/rpm). Anybody know what is happening here? I looked under the car and didn't see an obvious exhast diversion valve like a GT3 or F430. Is it something in the intake tract? I'd love to know what is happening to produce the sound change. Thank you.

Besides the sound you just described, how are you enjoying the Turbo S?

I'm pretty sure there's a butterfly valve in the exhaust somewhere.

O/T.

Took mine on a look trip across the alps a couple months ago, and a word of warning, the brakes when driving on a wet motorway can be quite shocking. please leave an extra big gap to the car in front.

Enjoy.

The sound you are describing is normal. In sport mode there is a valve that opens up further allowing for a deeper sound. Your car is fine. Enjoy the ride.

I wasn't worried about it. Just wanted to know where the thing is?

Just listened to mine in both modes at idle. Sport mode is a half octave or so lower. Did not know this happened on earlier models as well.

sport mode opens the valve in exhaust,

also you will notice over time the exhaust note will change as well just from everything breaking in... usually gets a little bit lower sounding...
