Toby since you seem to be one of the few people that actually know what they are talking about on this website, i wanted to ask for your expertise and or opinion..

I own a Stock 2009 997.1 Turbo 6 speed.

After few days of research on tuning a 997.1 i wanted to ask for your help.

You did alot more research then i did, and clearly you dont give a rats *** to voice your opinion and always answer with hard facts.

My plan is to run a custom made X piped 3" exhaust or 75mm or whatever it is in Euro speak (Dont feel like googling) without catalytic converters (One of the perks of living in colonies. Specifically Kentucky .... I am sure for $3k+ budget a reputable local fabricating shop will do better job building a exhaust system then most of these Chinese outsourced exhaust systems that are available on the flashy big name websites. (These should keep ETGs down)

Also plan is to Install a set of 997.2 Porsche stock intercoolers.
They seem to be extreme value for the money and more then enough to support my 550hp+/- crank reliable hp. (these should keep IAT numbers down)

And top of everything with FVD Bromacher tune.(These should keep my smile numbers up )

I am planing to do many 6th gear full throttle runs to make sure the tune works
at safe levels with my minor mods.

Do you suggest i do one engine part upgrade at a time and do Durametric logging for each?

Or do i install all engine performance upgrades together and then spend time with durametric in 6th gear high speed/ high load runs?

Fireeee offff

Thanks Ben

And top it all of with FVD Brombacher

Hi Ben

The only "issue" I would have is your exhaust plan, I know Porsche exhausts are all over priced but I would want one which has been tested and proven. My penchant is for Cargraphic as their systems used to be tested on the engine dyno (the 997 one was).
I recently fitted a Kline inconel 2.75mm and I raved about it but over time and specifically using mine as a daily driver it was just too noisy and "throbby", Kline are working to make me a quieter system but for now I am back with a CG unit and it ticks all boxes apart from top end shriek which the Kline had and maybe your intended cross over system may have.

The rest of your plan seem sound, I presume FVD are still selling their German ECU programming which can run to ~202mph (on the 997 turbo) and they haven't been dragged into some of the awful crap tuning which appears to have drifted over from the Japanese/BMW car scene showing massive 8 second chassis dyno run numbers.

I'd just bolt it all on and run the Durametric, it would be great to see some high speed/load data, something you won't see from 90% of the "tuners" out there

The one with da flaps, I had it modded internally replacing one of the solid straight through pipes in the mufflers with perforated ones for more civility.

I had a CG on one of my 996tt's and I think I'm still deaf from it (whaaaaatt???). Good to know the modification you did could fix that issue.

My understanding from a flow perspective is that all these x pipes have that nasty restriction still. I saw recently where VR was advertising their new 991tt system without the X, so even they have moved away from that. Not that I would ever buy it...

Interesting. Did you leave the flaps working as a dual tone system? If so how did it stack up reliability wise? I also recall you saying you were running different cats as well?
