Everything I have read says that octane boosters are ineffective, so your car would run better with the good gas in Germany.

Houston we have a problem.

Car felt great but I expected more. Spoke with Jan owner of 9ff who suggested that my VTG equipped engine was overheating the VTGs, one reason why he doesn't use them.
I data logged the next run and VTG temps were controlled accurately by the program to 900DegC max so spot on there.....IATs were at 31DegC max....

When I got back Jean did a comparison graph for me compared to the last event, you can see below, I am losing serious hp from 4th gear onwards

Blue line is 1 mile drag event red line is vmax

The only difference I could think of was the fuel. The car is mapped on German Shell 100RON. For the first (fast) event I ran a tank of UK Shell 99 with NF Race octane booster. For this event I ran Texaco 97RON with a different brand Octane booster, Silkolene Pro Boost at 3%.....

So after Jean's confirmation that I am way down I wanted to confirm to myself that it was not the Bruntingthorpe surface..... I sneaked out and ran WOT to 183mph and logged IAT, EGT and timing.

Confirmed, the car was some 3 seconds slower going 155mph to 183mph than at the first event......

I have sent the logs to my tuner and am hoping the timing numbers reveal a retard situation (other than the driver ).... If they can't fathom out anything then I am a bit stuck, maybe a trip to zee fatherland !

Thanks for posting this video.... It was great to see the 9ff drag racers in the flesh ! They were loud, lumpy, smelly and laggy but once on boost they went like hell !
This video shows how my VTG GT2 leaves the 1000hp big blower drag car for dead and it is only when the big boost starts to take over that its hp dominance reveals itself.

Checkout the trace below which shows the lag of the 780 9ff car compared to a CG/RS VTG car, it is not until 200kph until the 9ff car starts to dominate.

You can hear from the video that he IS trying with the 9ff car but 1000 big boost big turbo hp struggles big time against properly tuned VTG power until over 200kph.

Of particular interest to me is in the video after the run whilst they are cruising back the driver is asked "at what speed did we pass the GT2" - The driver replies 200kph......

In his dreams, I checked my version of the video and I am around 5 seconds into 5th gear as he flies by so it is not until over 260kph (162mph) when his power dominance shows - then it is big blower boost all the way

It is a great example of topend power vs. everyday low end power.

Why was it smelly? no cats?

Toby, what is the goal of running a car at VMAX?

Thnx M275 for posting the 9FF video it's amazing and I wish you all could have heard it fo yourself it sounded like a spitfire flying by!

Toby did very well up until 160mph like he says which is amazing, so it does show how quick it is for a low end to mid range car and compaired to the average car topend also, BUT the 9FF is purely setup for midrange to topend and it really shows this as that guy hit 222mph(210mph with roof down) in a comvertable which is completely berzerk so they are both in my opinion at other end of scales so not really a comparison that is fair to either of these amazing machines!!!

Nick.

Toby, what is the goal of running a car at VMAX?
It is enthusiasts jointly hiring the airstrip to be able to wring out their cars and enjoy doing stuff which our governments (9ff guys excluded ) prevent us from doing.
It is NOT a competition, there are no trophies, categories etc it is genuine enthusiasts enjoying themselves..... Even the distance is not exact, it is +/- wherever Daz abd Craig decide to put the beams and TBH I think they should shorten it a little following last Saturday, as more cars go over 200mph the stopping distance becomes all too short !
It seems that 9ff use these types of drag/high speed events to promote their brand of big blower big boost power..... they are nowhere to be seen in track drivability contests like the biggest, the German Tuner GP.

Here is the aspect 997GT2600hp vs 9ff1000hp from inside the GT2.... checkout I am 4 to 5 seconds into 5th gear (so 260-270kph) as he comes flying by...

Profanity warning: some overexcited swearing etc.....

GTRNick,

Congratulations! So we all can be clear on this, you ran 193 mph with a basic FVD software flash and a Tubi 200 cell cat set up, right? Your car is rated at 555 with an FVD exhaust, I can't speak for a tubi set up but we have PLENTY more top end to offer for your daily driver.

I would have expected TB993tt to have worked you over on top end. Hopefully he can get his issue's resolved. I would love to see what his GT2 can do after 9ff looks at it.

What a great turnout of cars, thanks for sharing!

Rhonda

ZeroH,

Your right! My mistake, posting at 10:30 pm after a few is not condusive to getting information right. I meant RS Tuning. RS Tuning are a class act and I am sure they will get it sorted.

Thanks for pointing that out, my apologies to 9ff & Toby!

An update on my "issue"...... looking like it is "user error". I have run through a full tank of proper 99RON Shell Vpower and ran some numbers, only up to 160 so just into 5th but the performance was back where is was. I sent some timing data from the Durametric to RS to take a look at but they have been too busy to look, hopefully next week..........
