Puff of smoke on cold start
I had this a couple times a year in 161K miles of 993 ownership.
Now I am getting it about once every 15 cold starts on the DD TT. Always from the driver's side. Car has 23K miles. Normal?

Terry, do you let the turbos cool for 2 minutes at idle before shutting off the engine? I do this religiously with my car as per the owners manual and never get the puff of smoke. Slightly different car I know.

My last 2 miles home is 3 miles at 40 mph, then 30 then 25. No boost. Also I thought the 997 TT has some kind of built-in cool down. But I'll RTFM and try the cool down to see if it helps. Thanks.

Sounds like we live in the same subdivision . I do the same and figure that's enough "cooling down" for the turbos. Get the white puff often also.

Been trying to figure this one out but can not find any correlation. About the best I can come up with is if I depress and release the gas pedal before starting. Otherwise, the car has sat a week at TPA without any smoke but will puff the smoke if sitting for a few hours in my garage. A boxer engine naturally will have the oil drain down to the bottom of the cylinder when not being used.
