Default Battery charging help

I got myself a CTEK MULTI XS 3600 Car Battery Charger this week. It's made by the same company that does that Porsche version, but it's much cheaper and this is the version up from Porsche's one.

Anyway, the instructions say to connect the negative croc-clip to the grounding of the car battery. Does it mean the grounding section where I have indicated on the pic below?

BTW, it would be easier to just connect the supplied ring cable hardwire adapter to the battery.
Then all you need to do is simply plug in the charger to the mating plug; no need for the clips.

Thanks

...do you mean leave the lead with eyelet terminals connected permanently (tied/tidied up somehow) and just connect this up when in the garage?

Yes.
That is the way in which it is meant to be used.

not wanting to sound ignorant, but the porsche version I purchased just plugs into the interior lighter/electrical plug. You then place the thin wire under the door and plug into electrical socket.

Yes, that sounds like the original Tequipment battery maintainer.
I've got 2 of them, they work fine.

I run mine through the top of the window, positioned doen 1/2 inch or so. Takes away chance of pinching cord in door.
Porsche unit works great

I use permanently installed pigtails to charge from inside the trunk. I thought I remember reading from someone who uses the Porsche charger that the door molding has a notch already cut to accomodate the cord so you don't have to worry about it pinching.

There's a gap in the door molding for the battery charger cord. Just run your finger along the weatherstripping on the underside of the door....drag your finger from the bottom middle of the door toward the rear of the car until you feel the slight gap in the molding...

Alex,

The 997TT does have a little recessed area on the driver's side in the weather molding as previously mentioned, but it's not a distinct notch like in the 996 series.

I use the cigarette adapter to charge... no messing with the boot or the battery cover. Simply unplug the charger as you get in/out of the car.

CTEK recently changed the connectors on their chargers (see pic below). They've gone to the orange and black Comfort Connect which will NOT mate to the white connectors pictured in your original post.

So make sure you get the proper connector if you go the cig route.

OT, I don't seem to have a 'slot' in the driver's side weatherstripping on the 996TT.
Does anyone know when this was added to the 99x family?

BTW, I do like the 'newer' connector, since it has a weatherproof cap on the end.
My 968 Cab had a similar setup (different charger company though).

Yes and you are right, however I run mine through the passeger side window with a necessary extension cord from the outlet. This keeps the entire operation out of Harm's way..in other words The wife who parks in the middle garage next the PCAR . You have to see my wife drive.
