My local dealer in NC mailed out invitations for the testdrive event and for lunch at the same time.

How would you rate the new Carrera S against the 997TT? I plan to purchase another P-car next year, and kind of had my heart set on a used 997TT to be in my price range by then (under $100K), but that kind of money might also buy a new Carrera S.

Thanks,

Andy

Coochas, you should have gotten the PDK.

We have a few of the new PDK's in demo status ready for test drives. Let me know if any of you are in the area, and would like to take one for a spin.

Andy-

It depends on what you are looking for in your next Porsche. The new Carrera S is very quick, lighter, handles very well, and is certainly a daily driver with this new PDK tranny. It is a very serious sports car. I enjoyed the test drive very much, but I would not trade my Turbo for one.

The turbo is a torque monster, and is still quite a bit faster at highway speeds, especially with Sport Chrono. It has the better looks in my opinion as well. I traded in my 06 Carrera S because I wanted that aggressive look of the Turbo. I also see anywhere between 17-18 mpg city, so you won't be taking much of a hit at the pumps either. The Turbo has endless potential in terms of modifications as well. If you want it to handle better, you can opt for the Bilstein PSS10. If you want more power, you can get it easily. 600 HP is an easy target for the Turbo, but you'll never be able to get to that level in a Carrera S short of supercharging. In other words, if you ever get tired of the S (highly unlikely), it's tough to get a whole lot more out of it. Both cars are daily drivers. Overall, you can't go wrong either way, but I say Tuuuuurbo!!

Coochas, when will the PDK TT be available? I asked my sales guy and he said fall '09 as a 2010 model.

That's probably about right but noone knows!
I like driving a stick so I'm comfortable going ahead with my order for a 6-speed. Maybe my 991 will have a PDK....only time will tell.
