Default To go ceramic or not........that is the question...

But seriously, I am about to order my dream machine, and I wanted to know if anyone is experiencing any problems with their carbon/ceramic brake set-up? I have seen a lot of reports on how the regular brakes are fine, if not better, but if I can afford the option, why not? Are there any real drawbacks? What is the life expectancy?

I have PCCB on my C2S, and I do not think i will get another car that is NOT equipped with them. I love the no fade aspect, and I love not having brake dust all over my wheels. Get them!

with blk on blk. I have them on my 07 997 TT and they are fantastic. They are powerful brakes. Love the minimal dust generated as well.

1. Subjectively, mine appear to bite harder than the steels on my son's '07 TT. Objectively, we will not know until some mag finds a way to apply equal pressure short of ABS, in equal conditions, and get 3 runs for stopping distance.
2. I would not be surprised to see rotor life of 150K for my kind of driving. Replacement cost should drop in half by the time 150K comes around. Aftermarket HID for the 993 are $100 versus the $1450 option cost for factory Litronics at the time.
3. Zero brake dust. My back can no longer take bending down to clean wheels for almost as much time as it takes to wash the car. Call me lazy, but even semi-retired, my time is worth something. I prefer to drive.
4. Zero problems. These are Gen II PCCBs.
5. Unsprung weight.
6. It's your wallet. If you can afford a splash of extra leather, CF, deviated stitching, illuminated sills, ....

I've been driving with PCCBs for nine months now and here are the two big downsides I've experienced:

1. Poor initial performance when wet. In the rain, I can stand on the brake pedal and it takes about a second before the car starts to respond. Once the brakes heat up this problem goes away, but it is very scary when it happens. If you are tailgating another car when this happens, you will likely hit them.

2. Most 18" wheels won't fit. This makes it more difficult (and expensive) to get winter tires or track tires. The only workaround I'm aware of is to buy custom 18" wheels from ccwheels.com.

You are right about the 18" for snows. Not a problem for my climate.

I ordered the PCCBs and absolutely love them. I would rather do without some of the leather options and go with the brakes. Just the dust free factor alone is almost worth the difference.

I ordered PCCB's on my TT that is on a ship to me now. In Europe last September I drove a Porsche for a week with them (drove it very hard in all kinds of weather). They were amazing and if I could get only one option on my car - it would be the ceramic breaks.

Just be VERY careful when removing/installing wheels on PCCB equipped cars.

That is my biggest fear (besides cost) with the PCCBs. A cracked rotor = $$$.

Can any of you guys that have had the PCCBs long enough to replace pads tell me what a new set costs? I can't find replacement costs anywhere (nor for my RS4 for that matter).

I plan on ordering another 911 once the MY 2009 changes are announced, and PCCB is on the fence right now.

This topic has been beaten to death. doing a search will yield lots of discussions both here and on the 997 forum.

What you'll find (like most things in life) is that those that have them love them (i'm one of them) and those that don't think they're overkill and a waste of money.

I know the pros/cons; I am trying to figure out if long-term maintenance will be a problem. Example: I could buy a really nice 550 Maranello for about $110K (less than half of new). However, maintenance is still like a $250K car. While I know parts down the road (i.e. at the 150K mile-mark) will be cheaper, who's to say I don't get a cracked rotor in a week or need to change pads sooner than later?

I think the way they look/perform/no dust/etc would be things I want. I just don't want to go broke maintaining fancy brakes when I wouldn't track it more than 1-2 times a year (if that).
