Default Porsche Plant Explosion - Halts 911 Production

I can't believe this has happened and my final production date is tomorrow! Does anyone know if my car shell would have been in the paint drying area still or would it have already been transferred over to the production/assembly factory already? Ugh - feel sick abou this.

I'm sure your fine, as i remember from the build sequence your car body would be at the assembly line run. FYI, small burn and didn't do much damage to the facility. Don't worry...

My S coupe was on the production line with a completion date of 2/29. I have read that the blast set off the fire sprinkler system, which flooded much of the production line, even away from the paint area. I have some concerns about potential water damage. My dealer said he would look into the shutdown with his regional sales guy, but I haven't heard back from him yet.

That was my original date but it got moved up a few weeks ago to the 26th. My dealer also has not received any information but my paperwork showed my order was in Paint Production when the explosion occurred. I am also concerned about water damage. This just sucks not getting any information! If anyone knows anything, please post!!! Thanks.

More bad news. Word is that partial production will resume next Monday with full production not commencing for 1-3 weeks

Default Production Resumes - 800 car backlog

Porsche to start production of the 911 again on Monday Shortfall of about 800 vehicles can be made good

Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, will be starting production of the 911 series again next Monday, March 3, at the main factory in Zuffenhausen. Production was stopped last Monday following a deflagration that occurred in the paint shop, in which a PVC fusion oven was badly damaged. The material damage, amounting to several hundred thousand Euros, is largely covered by insurance.

The causes of the accident have now been identified. External experts have ascertained that the gas escape was due to a technical defect. An examination of the other ovens has shown that they are in perfect working order and fully functional.

By adopting special measures, it will be possible to compensate the production backlog of 800 vehicles that arose during this week in the course of the current business year.

No, not a rush. They have authorized weekend work is my understanding to help make up for the shortfall - may take remainder of year to fit in the 800 so will result in delays for us all it appears (1-3 weeks I hear). I should know more about mine next week I hope and will post the delay.

If the plant produces 160/day, it would only take 5 Saturdays to "catch up".
