Default Detailing

Even with a new car finish I noticed small swirl/scratches in the paint. I recieved a Griots detailing package for Christmas including the orbital buffer. I gave it a go today with the polish and Carnuba wax once I plucked up the courage to put the buffer on the car WOW its amazing easy to use and the results are great.
Using the buffer to put on and take off the wax makes it very easy. Black paint is especialy exacting to get a good result and I have to say the paint looks wet.

never have the dealer detail your car during pdi, that's where your swirls came from.

yup, if i had my choice i would have had them keep the white plastic on it too but they insisted they at least peel that off. I brought the car to a high end detail shop and had them remove all the residue by hand, no machines.

There is NO ONE less handy than me and I've become an expert at detailing my car! It is not hard. You just need the right process and right products. It takes just as long to do it wrong then do it correctly.

And to the OP, yes your dealer screwed up your finish. I also told mine not to touch it and they thought I was nuts. When I drove it home I did the full monty on it and then took it to Detailing dynamics for the clear film. For those that know DD you know how good they are.

When Matt walked out to look at my car he stopped dead in his tracks and said "who prepped this car"? My heart sunk as I thought maybe I bit off more than I could chew. I sheepishly said "I did". His comment? "I knew there was no way any dealer could do a prep job like that". Boy, I felt much better!!

+1. I never let their washbay monkeys touch my car. It is as if all of their towels are 50 grit sandpaper

On a black car, you gotta get that thing Matrix coated, it will keep those nasty swirl marks from appearing. Venture Shield is also a must have.

This is the second reference about the Matrix coating, but I have not been able to fine additional information. Please advise.

Call me old fashioned but I think I would need to try it out on a "rental" first before I put it on the TT.
Texas911 thanks and I like your signature block, I have two kids currently at U of H.

Some of my classmates went to U of H after high School and played in the Cotton bowl on that frigid day against Joe Montana

It really works, very very well. I recommend having a certified installer install it, but it is definitely permanent. It gives an amazing depth of gloss, and it also beads water far more than ANY wax. Completely resistant to acids, bird droppings, etc. We probably coat 5 cars or more a week, and we've NEVER had a problem with it. Besides, it's got a lifetime warranty. It's also very very good in hot climate because it will help cure very very hard. Here in Seattle, we have to "bake" paint with curing lamps to ensure that maximum scratch resistance is provided before the car leaves.
