Default 997TT V 360 Modena

My 911 is coming off lease and I was planning to start shopping 360's. I was speaking to my dealer and he offered me a well optioned 997tt for $118k.

The offer gave me pause. I read this thread on the topic:

https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...&highlight=360

$118k is probably below the price of a nice 360 example.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks

If you like the specs on the TT (color, options) get it. That is a very good price.

I've had examples of both. 360 is much more fun and engaging assuming it's a spider. It's not a daily driver.

997tt is a great daily driver but lacks the sense of occasion.

Drive both, then decide!

As you're coming off a 911 and, assuming you really want a Ferrari, that it will fulfill some long held dream or desire, then by all means go for it. The 360 is quite reliable, as far as we can tell from 95% of the cars that tend to be very low mileage.

But if you will only have one car, or want to drive that car on a daily basis, get the 997tt, enjoy the thrills of zipping and thundering around in a stellar performing porsche, forget the 360. The 360 is great for a parade, to buff, to look at in your garage, to draw magnetic attention, and for fair weather driving. But it can be an inconvenience in anything less than good weather and controlled driving (ie., protected parking).

A porsche is just such a statisfying car, such great value for the money, so worry free and satisfying to own on many counts. Maybe that's why I find mysel reaching for the keys for my 993 twin turbo so much more than for my 360 Challenge Stradale.

Is it a brand new 997TT that your dealer is offering, or a slightly preowned car?

Thanks,

I had to make the same decision a couple of months ago. I located a couple of really nice 360 Spyders and did some research. If you go 360, make sure you get a '02+, there is a different clutch design for the F1 tranny and make sure the variator issue has been addressed. Most of the people I spoke to said go '02+ if you get an F1 or go with a 6speed if you go for an earlier model. I'm sure there are reliable '01s and earlier but why take a chance.

In the end, I went with a new TT because there is nothing worse than having to maintain a garage queen with big $$$ plus the nearest F dealer for service is 2 hours away!
