Default Nissan GT-R 7:38 Nordschleife video

Sorry for the OT... but the car has the 997 Turbo in its sights, and seems to have delivered the goods, so i'm posting here.

Admins: if you feel the post is inappropriate in this section, my apologies

i had someone confront me on this very issue the other day. asked me how i felt about the new skyline turning a faster time then my turbo.

997 turbo is listed at 7:40, but in this nissian video, they actually cut out about two seconds for that last little stretch to the mark where they started the timing.

Is that standard practice? Where does porsche time their marks from? I know on Gran Turismo 4, Project Gotham Racing 3 and Forza 2(i know, they are video games but it still applies) all use different start finish lines to mark a laptime. Is where nissian marked start and finish proper? Do they not use the same mark for start/finish or is there a starting timing position and a finish marker?

I was wondering the same thing. The flying lap starts the timer after the blue armco but ends before the blue armco?

I would also like to know what kind of tires they were on.

Even IF it is proven that the GT-R is a bit faster than a turbo - do you consider the GT-R a true competitor and alternative to the turbo?

If yes, why? Would you consider buying a GT-R, or trading your turbo for one?

If no, why not?

how much are they going to cost? are they going to be sold stateside?

i consider it an alternative. Personally, the 911s have a history within the model line that i enjoy. If a car that is half the price can be of the same performance, awesome but it still most likely wont strike me like a 911 does. If i had the choice, i would rather find a used 911 that costed the same as a Skyline, then buy a new skyline.

I would consider buying one...seems like a great value. But I would never sell my Porsche to get a Nissan.

Edmunds says the GTR starts at $67K. That is a bargain, of course you'll never even sniff that until a few years from now when all the speculative buyers run their coarse.

Maybe not competition for the TT but the R8 and Corvette.

and on that note, i would much rather get a corvette for the price, or the R8 for that matter.

An interesting point is that this car is supposedly "untunable" from the factory. If so, alot of stg2 TT's will be showing tailights to the GTR. If the ecu is cracked, the GTR's will be putting the hurt on the TT's. The tuners will be pushing 22+ psi of boost out of them and they will be putting down some unholy amounts of power.

i don't understand why everyone assumes that the new GT-R will be as tunable as earlier generatons.

Sure its only a matter of time before tuners get their heads round the new ECU's and turbo systems of the new car... BUT what made RB26 engined skylines (and the MkIV Supra) so tunable was that their engines were notoriously OVER engineered, and had so much potential.

in an era of supercomputer designed components, with mega precise tolerances and maximum efficiency the aim of the designers, i would not be surprised if the new engines will require a LOT more modifications than the odl RB blocks did, to achieve those unholy power levels...

just my guess you understand...

while i would love to have an awesome high powered Nissan or even the older 2JZ-GTE powered supra...if i had the choice i would first spend my money on a 911 as i have been a fan of them since i was in diapers.

The power of the new GTR and the last Supra, will be enough to put you back in diapers....
