My dealer says these are the same except for the paint and both are made by B&M. Anybody know if this is true? I want to get one installed next week.

Check with Loren at Renntech.org. I can tell you that for the 996 model that they are exactly the same. B&M makes the Porsche SSK, but paints it a different color. Not sure about the 997....but Loren probably knows....

I know, but am not allowed to say.
But you won't go wrong with the B&M for the 997 or 996, I can guarantee that!

I'm positive they are not the same (for a 997S 2005) because I had both installed. I cant say that B&M make both but they are different in feel (very different). Most likely this is true for the 997 Turbo as I have the SSk from the factory and it does not feel like the B&M on my 997S. The B&M will work on both cars, shifts are very short and direct (and fun too). If you track your car its the way to go IMO. If your not a track guy the OEM SSK is the better choice because its smoother and more tailored to daily driving. Take your pick you'll likely fall in love with both of them. My mechanic gave me a hard time when I installed the B&M on my 997S so I ended up going with the stock SSK in case there were warranty issues down the road that could be directly linked to the aftermarket part. Picky guy if you ask me (thankfully he is no longer around). I still have the B&M in my garage just in case!

Thet were the same on the 996, the 997 is not the same, the 997tt is different as well. There is a website where you can track all the various vendors for each make and model. I checked last yr and BM was not the porsche vendor for the ssk in the 887 or 997tt. I'll find the link.

I can't comment on the OEM price but the option at the factory was about $795 give or take $50? You should be able to have it installed for about that price. Ask Jeff at Suncoast Porsche, those guys have the best prices. You can install yourself if you like tinkering with cars otherwise just have the dealer do it. I think you will be happy with your choice but I am always asking myself "why is this not standard on a sports car of this calibur? The SSk doesn't seem excessivly short just a little less travel? No need to answer that I already know!

Thanks for the advice - For what it is worth, I had Suncoast install the B&H - It is like a totally different car - used it at Suncoast's night rally last Friday on the backroads of Sarasota county and it was great downshifting going into the turns.
