Default Chip Tuning...

Can anyone recommend a performance chip for my 997TT? My car has over 9000 miles and would love to be able to increase the HP. Any insight or guidance from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Very happy with GIAC and AWE. The software flash and exhaust takes you beyond 997GT2 power levels

answer - "it depends!"

I feel comfortable since 2 of the 4 techs at my dealership have been in club racing teams and been tuning for many years.

What if they leave, where will you be, with a 135k car and no warranty...not good when you want to flip it.

Don't get me wrong on this, I'm the first to mod everything I have had. I even had Corsa drop ship their exhaust to my Chevy dealer to install before I took delivery of my Z06.

I want to do the EVT-610 tune bad, 526 whp is crying out to me, but my intuition tells me to hold off. I'm not saying I'm not going for it, I just want to CMA.....

I have the flashloader - stock, 93 octane, and 100 octane programs. I now can switch them with the handheld dongle on the fly. Honestly, the car to me is so much better that I would do it over again in a heartbeat.

quick question: do we give up any of the drivability with upgrades? i.e. do we lose any lower end torque? Or is it just an increase all around?

Steve.

PS on a practical note, eclou easily reeled my stock 997 TT on a couple of our blasts down the highway!

Steve,

I was surprised to find that there is no loss of driveability or lag or low end bog. The simplest explanation I have is that the car seems to have the cork/limiter removed from the engine. It is better in every way imaginable - less lag, more power low/mid/high, smoother, etc. You are more than welcome to drive mine sometime to feel it. BTW Luis at Autodynamica does the flashes locally at W Tidwell near 290. Takes all of 40 minutes!

Nice. I guess I give Porsche so much credit, I can't imagine why they would not make the improvements on their own, but I guess there is so much more that goes into these decisions...longevity, liabilities, etc that they are hamstrung to some degree.

I'll take you up on that test drive next time we are together.

I am so impressed by anyone that can handle more than the stock HP. My hat's off to you. 480 HP is more than I can drive to it's max potential and I don't know what I would do with more power. But then again, I said he same thing after my 997S and driving schools (M, PDE) and I love the extra power and especially the torque of the 997TT.

Regarding the quest for more power: has nothing to do with capabilities of driving the car at it's max potential. Clearly, extra power/tq is only going to be helpful in certain situations, like hard acceleration on a straight. Nobody is using 480 HP (let alone 600) going into a turn. Maybe coming out of a turn, but then drifting is a whole different way of driving your car. My point is, you use the max when the max can be used. The more you have, the more you can use when the time is right. A famous driver said something like "If you're not leaving black tracks from one turn to another, then you don't have enough power"

Do they need the car or is the hand held loaded with the tunes like Diablo Sport and SCT. That would be nice to plug into the OBII port and reflash when ever.

we need the ECU or the car. It has to come out to be bench-flashed unfortunately. All 996TT's, 996s, Caymans, Cayenne and 997S' can be done through the OBDII port tho.

Alex - have you looked at the promo materials for the FVD flash - it reads like it can be done all through the OBDII port - you have to email them the stock configuration and they send it back but it looks like you don't have to remove the ECU - all the changes are done by the owner's laptop. Do you know anything about that?? Thanks.
