Placed a deposit
Placed a depost on a 997 Turbo today, quoted delivery December '07. Got to say, still not sure I want to go through with it (I feel painfully attached to my 993TT), but the deposit is fully refundable until a few weeks before delivery...
So, here's the basic specs I'm thinking of (not complete off the top of my head):
Manual
Arctic Silver
Can-Can Red Leather (full leather inc. light-pod, centre-console back, door finishers, sun-visors)
Carbon Fibre (large package + steering wheel, window switchers, centre console, door guards)
Heated Adaptive Seats
HandsetForPhone (CanCan)
SportChronoPlus
Short-shifter
ParkAssist
RearWipers
RearAxleDifferentailLock
Think that's it...
Damn... if only I didn't feel like I was cheating!

I am a 993 owner and a 997 owner. I can tell you this, they are completely different machines.
I love it when people see the 993, they still ask me, "is that the new Porsche.."
But in reality we all know, it's 10 years old.
If you bought a television, and it was top of the line, 10 years ago.. Imagine how different it is from the top of the line HD televison of today.
The 997 Turbo may be less nostalgic, may be less expressive, may be less connected... But on the other hand, it drives like no other vehicle. In every way, it will destroy the 993. It's much more comfortable, has better handling, power and has all the comforts of a decade of technology. Satellite, cup holders, usable rear seats (somewhat), etc.
It has the refinement of a Lexus and the power/performance of one of the worlds best supercars.

The obvious added thrills this car will bring is not worth an additional 65K to me.
