Default ipod adapter

I know this has probably been discussed to death here, but after doing a search I could not find the answers I needed so here I go - I want to get an Ipod adapter for my upcoming 997 TT - is the dension unit the only one that is available? where can you find it at and what exactly is the model we need called? I have tried on-line but has not found one that states it is for our model of car - how much should it cost and what are typical installation fees? TIA

I have the brand new Nav-TV i-Pod kit for my 997S. Works just like the other brands and my i-Pod plugs right into my glove box. You will not be able to use your CD-Changer after you do this like the others as well.

interesting - how much was this and where did you get it? did you install it yourself? are you able to watch video on the nav screen? (that would be very cool)
oh yeah, one other thing, I do not have a changer and am not sure if this is a problem or not - remember reading somewhere that some of the cabling was still there - but maybe I am wrong on that

There is no video with this i-Pod unit. I had Gino's Auto Sound a local Nav-TV dealer here in NJ install my Nav-TV i-Pod unit. This Nav-TV unit is so new mine is the first Porsche they ever did. In order to have the i-Pod in my glove box they had to remove the glove box to run the cable. They also had to take out the factory Porsche head unit. This was a lot of work and it took the guys 3 hours for the job. I'm sure they will get faster when they do more as this was the first Porsche they had ever done with this unit and they took their time with it. The install looks great and you cannot tell that anything had been done until you open the glove box and see the i-Pod sitting there. I believe that is where the i-Pod belongs and it's easy access if you want to unplug it and run into the house etc.

Check with bumperplugs.com to find out more about the Dension product. A poster named Hank has shared lots with us re: his experience - all good, apparently. Good luck.

So fare no problems with my Nav-TV unit. If you want more information on this Porsche unit go to Nav-Tv's web site: www.nav-tv.com or just give them a call they are very friendly folks and can explain everything about this new i-Pod interface for our Porsche's.

I am not affiliated at all with this company, I am just a happy customer.

how much is the nav tv system? on their website they do not list a price - I think the dension unit is about $500, so I am hoping this is less if it is working well for you

I have the Nav-tv unit as well. Although I like it, there are definitely a few shortcomings that you should be aware of. First, it doesn't have the same hierarchical structure as the ipod. If you search by Artist, you must play all of the songs under that artists name. You cannot sub search for the album if you're in the search by artist menu. Therefore, if you want a specific album, you must search by album. Personally, I have no idea what my albums names are anymore and find this very difficult.

Another problem is the scrolling. Say you have 100 artists on the ipod. The unit breaks it up into batches, then pauses, then another batch, pause, etc, etc. This takes too much attention away from the road and usually causes me to find some music in the first batch. Basically, just too many "keystrokes" to get where you want to go.

Bottom line, works well, but the interface could be much better.

I don't know anything about the Dension. It could be better; it could be worse. I thought I was doing something wrong so I spoke to the aftermarket specialist at the dealer a few weeks after delivery. A customer was having the dension put in the following week. He'd never seen one before. I'll call to see if he checked it out and what he thought.
