Default Removal of factory CD changer?

I would rather have the trunk space. Can I remove the CD changer without causing connection/link problems with the rest of the PCM? Would I have to take the car in to service and have settings changed?

The CDC is connected to the infotainment ring (PCM, amplifier, etc) via plastic optical fiber cable (similar to token ring); the specification is called MOST.
If you remove a node, you will 'break the ring', rendering the infotainment system inoperative.
You would need to install an optical 'bypass' to replace the CDC once it is removed from the ring.
Your dealer can do this for you very easily and quickly.

Idye,
My TT did not come with the CD changer and I was thinking about adding one as I liked it in my 997S. Where exactly is it mounted that it's taking up space? My 997S' changer was enclosed in a small compartment and not in the way at all.

CD changer is located in the bottom right side of the trunk. Not really that large but the trunk is already reduced in size with the nav. May be for sale if I do remove it.
My dealer had told me it was a major job to remove. I had my doubts that it could be that big a deal.

I didn't bother ordering a CD changer on my Turbo. if anything I will be putting a Denison Unit in its place for my IPOD. I can't see how it would be a major issue to remove it and reprogram it with the proper codes or ommiting it from the "chain". Adding one is not hard either but the computer needs to recognize its presence in order for it to work so you'll have to take it in to be programed either way.

Is your trunk layout similar to this? If so, how did you remove the changer?

I thought the CD in the changer powers the Nav, so would you not lose your Nav?

Edit: looking at the pic, it appears to be a separate CD changer, not the Nav unit. My bad.

On the AWD cars Porsche placed the remote CD changer into the baggage area. On the 2WD cars it can fit inside the aft part of the trunk (just across the firewall from the battery area). Removal just can't be that big a deal. The navigational system is DVD based (until MY10) and requires a different black box and another location.

Here are some pics with Nav & CD Changer covers (Plastic Cowl) removed. The key to removal?

Nav & AMP Cowl Removal:
* Grip at bottom, both side and pull straight up!

CD Changer Cowl Removal:
* at both sides (from picture Top & Bottom/North/south ends), at bottom pry outward slightly then up to remove. No easy task...

BTW I have a 2007 C4S Cab...

What about disconnecting the CD changer and using a satellite radio module on the fiber optic end? Just like the OP mentioned, CD changers are taking up extra space plus they are pretty much absolete these days with the dash playing MP3s...

There is a very detailed thread in the 997 forum regarding the installation of the OEM Cayenne Sat radio kit into Carreras/Boxters.

This can be done since the infotainment hardware is identical between the Cayenne and the Carrera/Boxsters (and the software is 95% common as well).

So, yes, you can do what you mentioned, the only thing you may need is a software update via PIWIS, which your dealer can easily do for you.

Thank you.
However, out of all the things I've designed, this isn't one of the ones I would like to be remembered for.

We sell a cd changer closure that will allow the optical loop to continue to the other devices....if you need it.
