I'll keep my turbo as a DD, but would look at this if the V10 is priced right. It is futuristic looking, which is part of the appeal to me. Performance should be up there I'll bet with the V10.

This tt must have steel disc or they would have mentioned the ceramic concept as am additional $8.5K. This shows 103 ft from 60-0 which compares almost exactly with ceramic brake data that was reported in a recent AutoWeek article.

Gallardos, unlike Ferraris can be heavily discounted. The markup is almost $40k. New 06's (non-SE) were selling in the mid to high 160's, and the R8 is probably not going to be discounted.

Drove two Gallardos in the past week. If the R-8 is anything like this there is NO WORRY. Don't bother to get excited.

I used to think the 996 4WD was heavy. Then my 997 C4S was better. Then my TT was much better. The Audi/Lambo 4WD...they must be kidding.

I think that the 2500HD Silverado w/Duramax that is on-order can't be much more heavy.

i liked this comparo and agree with everything they said. why did c/d, r/t, m/t, etc all test audi vs std c4? the tt is the real rival.

im not sure which of these 2 i prefer but just glad p makes a gt3.

I have an R8 due in September, one of the 1st into Australia. I have an RS4 Cabrio (swapped from an RS4 Sedan) and a TT currently.

I've sat in an R8 at the Sydney motorshow. It will come in at US$50 below a TT here in Australia. A TT is US$280k here (luxury car tax, import, etc)

The engine that's in the R8 is a fantastic piece of kit (same as in RS4), not as nice as the V8 in the F430 if you ask me, but still great none the less.

However, having said all of this, i am unlikely to take delivery of the R8 now I have a TT. Initially I thought I was going to have to wait ages to get a TT, so I was going to settle for a R8 instead. There's too many Carreras now and for the money they arent that fast and they arent that special a car. I'd have an RS4 over a Carrera S model any day of the week, so to me. an R8 would be an even better choice supposedly. But the problem is, I have a TT, so whats the point of having an R8. If they make the R10 (which is what the V10 R8 is supposed to be called) then it's a fair comparisson, but the R8 vs the TT isn't.

Perosnally, if you want a Mid engined race bred V8, an F430 is where it's at.

When I see an Audi of any sripe go faser on the track than a similarly priced Porsche, I might consider it.

But if they insist on making cars tha look like "Robbie" in Forbidden Planet (1954 or 56 I think) then fuggettabbouttit!

Honest. Those of you old enough to have seen the movie...are they seperated at birth?

How about these track times from the Nurburgring. Thats a 20km track, which is a pretty good indication of real world performance, and you could argue is a good benchmark track for all cars, nearly all manufacturers test their cars there.

7:28 - 166.652 km/h - Porsche Carrera GT, 612 PS/ 1475 kg, Walther Roehrl, (Autobild 07/04)
7.39* - 161.575 km/h - Porsche 997 GT3, 415 PS/1395 kg, *mfr. (quote sport auto 05/06)
7:40 - 161.217 km/h - Porsche 997 Turbo, 480 PS/ ??? kg, Michelin Cup Sport tyres (Motortrend)
7:43 - 160.173 km/h - Porsche 996 GT3 RS, factory test driver Walter Roehrl (MOTOR magazine)
7:46 - 159.142 km/h - Porsche 996 GT2, 462 PS/1450 kg (sport auto 06/01)
7:48 - 158.463 km/h - Porsche 997 GT3, 415 PS/1440kg (sport auto 07/06)
7.49 - 158.124 km/h - Porsche 996 GT3, 392 PS (AutoBild 2004),
7:49 - 158.124 km/h - Porsche 996 GT3 Cup, 360 PS/1207 kg (sport auto 02/99)
7:54 - 156.456 km/h - Porsche 996 GT3 (sport auto 06/03)
7:56 - 155.798 km/h - Porsche 996 Turbo, 420 PS/1569 kg (sport auto 06/00)
7:58 - 156.652 km/h - Audi RS4 4.2 V8 FSI, 420 PS/ 1650 kg, Frank Stippler (10/05)
7:59 - 154.822 km/h - Porsche 997 Carrera S, PASM setting “Performance”, (Walter Roehrl WHEELS 06/ 2004)
8:02 - 153.858 km/h - Porsche 997 Carrera S, PASM setting “Sport”, (Walter Roehrl WHEELS 06/ 04)

I am sure we can argue stats on different tracks all day long, but the fact of the matter is an RS4 is cheaper than a Carerra S, has full luggage space, can carry 4 people, has 414bhp, all wheel drive and has a sub 8-minute track time on the Nordschleife. That's not a bad set of stats for a 4 door sedan.

Fair enough, buy the Audi.

Scary how close to a 996 Turbo a 997 Carrera S comes though round the ring.
