Here is a walkthrough of how to remove the ECU from your 997TT. Why am I showing you this? Well, the answer will be much more clear about mid week ![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Tools Required:
T-30 torx
10mm socket and rachet.
6mm Allen if you have the Bose Speaker Box
Time Required:
10 minutes
1. Disconnect the battery, then climb into the back seat of your 997.
2. If you have the Bose system, you will need to remove the speaker box. Otherwise, skip to step 6. Remove the plastic trim on each side. It will just pop right off the box.
3. Underneath is a T-30 torx screw that you have to remove. It is a long little bugger. Repeat on other side.
4. With your 6mm allen, remove the seat latch pins (where the rear seat backs snap into place) from the side walls. While you can get the speaker box out without removing them, getting it back in is a little more difficult. I removed only the 1 side, and got the box back in fine. If you want it to slide right in, just remove both pins. (It is probably quicker to do this than to fight it).
5. Next, slide the speaker box forward. There is a wire behind on the drivers side that you need to disconnect. You can slide the box forward, and carefully turn it over to see the clip (pinch the sides). Undo the clip and remove the box from the car.
6. Now you see the carpet section that was underneath the bose box. Grab underneath the middle of it, and pull upwards, working the carpet out. Remove from the car. If you have the Bose system, remove the small carpet square that sits on the passenger side of the metal bracket (it is part of the carpet you just removed)
7. Now you are looking at 2 metal plates. The ECU is underneath the passenger side plate. Remove the small carpet piece
8. Remove the 1 10mm nut from where the 2 plates meet in the middle, and the 2 10mm nuts on the passenger end that. Set aside the speaker box mounting bracket if you have the Bose system. If you do not have the bose system, you will not have this bracket.
9. Work the passenger side metal ecu plate up and out from the mounts. Underneath there are a bunch of cable connectors going into the ecu. Starting from the passenger side, and working to the drivers side (you can only go one way, and can not mix the plugs up, so don't worry about that): Pull the gray plug on the passenger most side. It is a simple push button (on the bottom) and pull. The next clips you will push in the button on the top, and slide the lever arm to the passenger side, which will pop out the plug. Keep working towards the drivers side. The black plug nearest the drivers side is just like the gray square plug you removed. Then remove the blue plug on the bottom. Two push clips, and pull.
10. Now you have an ECU out of your car
Remove the 4 torx screws holding the ECU to the mounting plate and you are done.

excellent instructions, I wish I had them when I removed mine. I had to remove both seat latch pins from the sides though and I do recommend it.
Took me more than 10 minutes, but with these instructions it is a piece of cake.
You will love it when the ECU is back (where did you send it?).
Another issue is disconnecting the battery, I did not do it either before or after re-installation and it was fine although it is probably safer to do.
Enjoy.
