Default Coupe or Cabriolet

I am new to the Porsche world and have ordered a new 997TT. I have ordered the Cabriolet because I wanted the convertible but also love the lines of the Coupe.

I was wondering if anyone could offer advice on this decision.

Thanks and I look forward to participating in the forum.

coupe looks better than a cab with top up
coupe is lighter so a little quicker
coupe a little more stable
coupe is cheaper
cab looks really cool with top down !!!
tough call !
Agree with all of the above, but I would still always get a cab because in spite of all the very real benefits of Coupe over cab they all disappear when you go for a drive on a beautiful evening with the top down, heated seats on and sun setting. There is no substitute!
BTW, Orders are being taken for 997TT Cab It has not been announced yet, has it?? Will it be available in the first MY?

Exactly.

I've had both the coupe and the cab and the cab wins hands down for the sheer joy of driving on a fall day, or a summer night. A Turbo Cab might be as close to a 4 wheel motorcycle as you can get.

Yea, that's one topic I haen't seen discussed much. Are there any educated guesses on when they may announce a 997 Turbo S Cab? When would you expect the first one to get in the hands of the buyer? I'm thinking 997 Turbo in Late '06, Turbo S in Mid '07, Turbo S Cab in Early '08. Thoughts? This waiting game is making me or and more joyful I picked up my 2005 Turbo S Cab when I did.

I read recently in one of the Porsche magazines that the Turbo and Turbo S would be launched a the same time, unlike the 996 TT when the S came out some time after the "regular" Turbo.

Sadly, this is an age old problem since around 1983 when the first ragtop 911 arrived on the scene. You are very correct,--there is nothing more beautiful with 4-wheels and an engine than a 911 coupe. However...the cabriolet offers something else entirely. After being a 911 guy for nearly 30 years (with coupes) I am going out on a limb and ordered a cabriolet. For those of us in California the cab question is a bit easier,--we have a much more extensive 'season' to use them top down.

That is what made the decision for me.

Have to go with the cab. The Turbo has so much performance that even giving up a few percentage points to the coupe means nothing in the real world. But as said above, the rush you get driving on a great day with the top down, listening to the exhaust, is well worth the meaningless reduction in performance.

I have the dealers launch car for the TT cab.

Default Engine Note

I live in Sydney, Australia where the weather is fantastic most of the year. I have an Audi RS4 cabrio and a 997TT Coupe.

I previously had an RS4 sedan, and thought i'd swap it for the cabrio. What I gave up in performance and chasis strength i'd gain in open top motoring and listening to that glorious V8 soundtrack.

Sadly, the cabrio wasnt a patch on the sedan, and I was really disappointed after extended drives. The handling wasnt the same, the chasis wasnt as strong, and the tucked away roof dampens the engine note. It just wasnt the same car.

If the 997TT Coupe vs Cabrio has the same issues, get the coupe.

I drove a 996tt cab for a week. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the open air feeling of the cab but I could not abide all the rattles and shakes inside the cabin. The 997tt cab may be stiffer than the 996tt cab, it it cannot possibly be as stiff or rattle-free as the coupe.

The 997 cabriolets are vastly more rigid than the 996 cabriolets.
