Default Engine Modifications

I bought a 2010 turbo late last year from a friend of mine. He bought it on BAT. I am not sure of what modifications have been made but they include an IPD plenum, Pure turbos, FabSpeed intake and exhaust and an ECU tune. Maybe more. I was told that it has upwards of 700 HP. Can that be true? I know that it is very powerful. But what I want to find out is when boost starts there is a WHOOP sound and a high pitched scream that I have never heard elsewhere — at the track or otherwise

. It sounds like squealing tires but that’s not it. I think the work was done in the Charlotte area. Any ideas?

I’d start by doing a boost leak test to make sure everything is nice and tight. If that checks out, then I would do a visual inspection of the turbos to see if there is any play in the turbine shaft and if the bearings are worn out. Does the car make the noise at any other time, other than under boost/load?

Default Thanks

Nick. It makes the noise only as boost starts and stays on during boost

Ahh, gotcha. I had my turbos rebuilt as they started making a whining noise all the time; under load/boost it was most noticeable...sounded like a dentist’s drill. A boost leak test may be the first start, just to see if there is a small leak potentially causing the noise you hear under boost. Also, does the drive belt look to be in good shape?

Default Thanks again Nick

Good idea. Belt slip would act and sound like what’s going on. Supposedly the belt was replaced before I got it. But I have a new belt I bought with plugs and coils. I’ll put it on asap. A pulley came with the order. Commonly replaced?

I was under the impression that you can't get to 700hp without doing additional fueling mods.. Are there any fueling mods or a meth kit?

I think it is doable with a completely stock fuel system. I’ve had Mike at TPC tell me he can get over 700whp on the stock fuel system, stock injectors, stock throttle body and plenum…just larger turbos and a custom tune and maybe a few other things but not much. I’ve got stock fuel system but 1100cc injectors and pushing close to 700whp on 93oct.

On the 997.1 yes, but did he say that for the 997.2?
