Default Engine trouble

My 997 Turbo engine hydrolocked and I'm looking for a shop to rebuild it. Does anyone have any recommendations for a shop in So Cal?

GMG in Santa Ana rebuilt my 997.1tt Mezger after it hydrolocked. We made it into a forged 3.8 L. It’s a work of art and runs beautifully. I’ve put about 10k miles on it so far. I highly recommend GMG.

Apparently mine was likely from a bad injector- the cylinder was full of fuel when they broke the motor down, the timing chain was broken, and the rod was bent. Bad deal. Pretty unusual I think.

But now it’s a 3.8l motor with forged carillo rods. It’s a beast. GMG built it very nicely.

Was yours all factory & untouched when it hydrolocked? Or did it have bigger injectors / tune?

At the time, it was running stock Bosch injectors, 63 mm VTG’s, GMG intercoolers and exhaust and GIAC tune. It had around 35k miles running on those mods and 48k miles total.

its a painful story. Long story short, a shop overfilled my oil during oil change and it got to my intakes.

Hope they're paying for it.

That's the second time I've fallen for it this month! (Couldn't resist, folks over fifty should get the reference.)

Sorry this happened but hopefully the damage isn't too extensive beyond what you noted. Has the original shop owned up to it? I would think they could claim this under their insurance but I'm no expert. As to a shop, Callas Rennsport in Torrance is top-notch but they aren't cheap.

This kind of stuff happens unfortunately. I remember in my twenties a buddy of mine rebuilt his engine and started it for the first time without any oil (completely forgot). Trashed all the crankshaft and rod bearings but fortunately not much more than that.

Yes, the shop's insurance will be paying to get it fixed. It took months to get their adjuster and the claim to be processed but grateful the shop owned up their mistake.
