I like the motor heritage of the .1 The .2 will lack that forever.

You will hear a lot of varying opinions that will differ 180% from each other here.
For me, I had to have a Turbo S since I found the S badging cool, and I wanted the "best of the best" in a comfortable Porsche Turbo car since my last 2 Porsches weren't Turbos.
I had the S on the back of my 96 993 C4S, so I wanted it on my newer car. May sound stupid to most of you but I wanted what I wanted.
Had to have centerlocks - loved the way they looked. Funny that in the 5 years I've had this car I never got a flat or had a need to remove the wheels or tires by myself so it never mattered, to me, that the centerlock wheels are harder to get off the car and to me the best looking stock wheel for this car.
Had to have PDK.
Wanted a car that was known as stupid fast since I never had a stupid fast car, and it had a 0-60 time of 2.8 seconds. In 2011 when my 2012 car was built, Ferrari's were barely that fast.
After seeing the PCM on the 2007-2009's, I knew I had to have the newer one. It just had to be. It seems so much nicer to me.
My car was WAY beyond my budget, but like a lot of things I've purchased in my life, I bought it anyway.
I didn't care what others on the forum said about the 07-09's, I knew what I wanted and I much preferred the aesthetics of the 2011-2013 Turbo S.
Did I happen to mention I simply liked the sound .... Turbo S? It slipped off the tongue so smoothly and I couldn't afford a 1997 993 Turbo S when I wanted one. This was my chance.
And lastly, to get a $176k car for $110k with 8k miles on it seemed like a no brainer.
I got exactly what I wanted, my dream car. I can't imagine anything better for the $110k I paid 5 years ago.

My earlier "S"

This PCM is so darn pretty....

I wasn’t going to buy one unless it was a .2, period. It had LEDs in the rear. The .2 front had bug-eyes looking headlights, ew, yet I still wanted a .2

Then my fiend told me I’m an idiot to discount Mezger engine so we went for a test drive. My jaw dropped AND it was a stick plus slightly above the price i was comfortable with.

What won me over on .1:
1. Price you pay for a stick
2. Prettier (to me) headlights
3. Better looking/functional fog lights
4. No droop in the taillights
5. Smaller, more streamline side mirrors (no .2 elephant ears over here guys)

What I REALLY want from the .2:
1. LED tail lights (but they’re droopy) ☹️
2. Big exhaust tips
3. Better color head-unit (black)
4. 3.8L displacement
5. Better intercoolers
6. I hear ride quality is sporty yet more refined? That’s awesome.
7. You can keep stock cats but get an X-Pipe so no need to spend 4-8K on a f’n exhaust. F’n ridiculous.

I HATED the droopy taillights when they first came out. Now I kinda dig em.

It has to have a PDK, so looking for a 997.2. I've owned several turbo/manual cars and don't like the boost loss during shifts.

Not one of you have mentioned the handling differences... the .1 car drives like an all wheel drive car... the .2 has a completely revised rear suspension, active motor mounts (when optioned), and a completely different front differential & software... .2 cars are much more rear wheel feeling and handling....

.1 for the Mezger engine + price + point on depreciation curve = opportunity for value shoppers. I imagine Porsche will solve the outdated PCM on 997.1 the same way they did on 996 with the new PCCM.

MT, Price, Engine. I have a DFI engine/PDK from Audi, and while they are a great combination, I wanted the raw feeling a .1 delivers. I don't think we're going to have too many more opportunities to see a combination like this.

Knowing the warts and saving some cash, worked in combination with each other. Though the timeline to do the work was kind of forced on me earlier than I thought, with pinned cams & coolant fittings, new hoses, O rings and coils, (and finally diagnosing a MAF issue) I am looking forward to some care free miles.

I did not know about the extent of the changes. Thanks for this info.

I hear you. I owned a 991 for 3 years and just never fell in love with the platform. I have no desire for a 991 TT for sure!

if you want to tune the CAR withou OPENING the engine the .2 model is better way to go ! its faster ...

if you want more than 700 whp go with a .1 car ! becouse the pdk is limited to around 850 nm . or you go with a 10000 dollar dodson clutch
