Default My "dream" garage is done

No, I didn't go out and buy a new car, or the fleet of cars that I would really want in a dream garage. I did however turn my garage into a covid home office for the Porsche obsessed!! Here is a blog post with more details on what the garage use to look like, etc. but I'll share the "after" photos here as well. I can now work all day in the garage with a smile on my face

Blog post - https://911maniac.com/2020/08/12/my-...arage-is-done/

Colors inspired by my 997 TTS

A 19x19 garage that has a 1.5 foot bump out due to a gas fireplace makes for a tight fit. I'm actually back far from the wall here...I can fit the Jeep in here when I need to.

Very much at home.

A wall of canvas prints from various cars I've owned over the years.

Where I spend all day most days. A great graphic artist on Instagram made that image of my car which I printed and framed.

You can find some cool Porsche stuff on etsy!

I scraped the front even worse backing in for this photo...I won't be doing that again!

Still room for bikes.

I’m curious how your 991 Targa experience compares to your 997TT. I’m a big fan of open air driving, and have (what I thought was my dream car): an ‘09 997TT cab. But I’ve learned that the definition of a dream car is the one you want to buy immediately after obtaining your dream car.

The 991 Targa has always been in the back of my mind as that next car. I know it’s not as fast, I know its heavier, I know around turns it wont handle as great. But I’m curious as to your comparison. I read your blog post and you didn’t comment on the comparison.

I’m similar to you. People often ask me which car has been my favorite and I always say, “the next one”

My first 911 was a 78 SC Targa and when I saw the redesign, how retro it was...I had to have it. I loved the car. I happen to think the new Targa has some of the best lines of any modern 911. The top is an engineering marvel that never fails to put a smile on your face watching it work. It was plenty fast and handled as well as I would ever need. It’s no track car but I’m no track junkie either. The only downside for me was the occasional squeak / rattle (more than a coupe) and I wish I didn’t buy red. It was a beautiful color but a bit flashy for me. I sold the Targa because a major life change occurred and I didn’t want to have all that money invested in the car.

Financially things stabilized again and when it came time for another 911, I wanted to buy used. I had never owned a real Turbo and thought the 997.2 TTS was by far the best bang for the buck. I love a big spoiler on a 911 and was happy to find a TTS with the aerokit. It is scary fast and thrilling to drive. It is my first coupe and first turbo and I could stare at the shape of the car all day. The stopping power is as insane as the acceleration and I’m having a blast driving a true super car.

On a nice summer day with the top down, no contest...the Targa was more fun. Open top cars always are. That being said, I’m loving the experience of a classic looking black turbo and the power is intoxicating.

Next...who knows. Maybe a GT3 or a RSR Tribute or a GT4...I’m working my way through a long list of possibilities

Awesome garage. Love how it's color matched to your black/yellow car.

Also, thanks for providing my weekly reminder that I should have held out longer for an aerokit Turbo.

You are crazy, but in a good way! There must be something about the Porsche-obsessed that allows us to marry the greatest women in the world. Who else would put up with this? Great job on the garage, I think a lift would be the finishing touch.

You have a lot of boots. Thx for posting this, amazing amount of work went into your garage, and thought. Super well done. TOTALLY jealous. So you use your computer for .... work in your garage? Next to your car? Or is this simply an extra computer for looking stuff up while in the garage and you actually do all your work somewhere else? I wouldn't mind having my 997 Turbo S in my office so I can stare at it all day while the screen refreshes but I don't have room for any set up like that in my tight garage.

Thanks everyone, it has been a really fun project.

I've thought about it, but I belong to The Shop in Seattle and they have 4 lifts, full sets of tools, a professional detail bay, etc. along with a club house full of toys, card room, VR Racing, etc. I just take the car there for any work that needs to be done. If I install a lift in my garage, it would be to fit another car underneath

So you use your computer for .... work in your garage?
My company is working full time from home for the foreseeable future and I have a wife and two kids that are also working and schooling from home. I'm on calls all day and it was hard having me in the mix. I moved my home office setup into the garage full time so I'm out here all day working. I had to make this place more livable and it was the excuse I needed to do the project. You totally have the room, you just need to make your two car garage a one car garage like I did. Technically I should be able to put two cars in here but with storage, bikes, etc. it was never practical. It has always been my fun car garage (much to my wife's frustration as she walks in the house in the Seattle rain through the front door). She is a wonderful woman to put up with me

Jeff

Lol words must have different meaning over there in MD. "Almost impulse bought a $200k GT3, but I'm not rich," "my 2.5 car garage is tight." Do you describe your house as a "tiny little shack"?

I forgot about the best part of your response...the boots As I was clearing out the bikes and other crap for the photos, I thought about moving the boots. I decided to leave them in...adds some authenticity right! In Seattle we may not carry umbrellas, but we damn sure keep a stockpile of boots for winter exploring or when we take the Jeep off-road.
