Window memory reset

Does the switch press and hold from the 996 work the same on the 997 for the window memory reset? My passenger window does not auto up / one touch unless half way up already.

Sounds normal. Mine's done it that way since new. Safety feature if you have a kid in the passenger seat.

Your 997 does that? It's not normal; passenger window should go all the way up if you pull the switch to the auto-up notch. The window reset procedure OP mentioned should resolve it. (I don't recall the exact procedure, but it involves holding the switch after the window is up; a quick search of the forum should find it.

Mines always behaved like that. Needs to be held to halfway then closes after release

Maybe its a .1 // .2 thing?

I'm now interested in hearing from more people, I would think if it was normal that kind of info would be easy to find no?

Just tried that and it does not reset to one touch all the way up. Only goes all the way up when just past the half way up.

Maybe it's a .2 feature not in the .1

It is normal. Owners manual states passenger side must be half way up before the auto close feature can be activated.

Ahh OK, it's a coupe vs cab thing.

I didn't think to look in the manual... duh... That settles that. Thanks!

No problem. When I got my Turbo I thought the window behavior was strange so I checked the manual and to my surprise, it showed that this was the designed operation. I can’t figure out how this is a safety feature. What is the potential incident that it is trying to prevent from happening?

If you leave the key in after you turn the engine off, you can still operate SR and windows once. Don't know why, but not safe.

You're saying it's only safe to operate windows with the engine on? Why?

Mine too. Same deal. Assumed it was normal and it hasn't really been an annoyance. I have a 997.1 (2007)

Just stating a fact, not why. Try it. Engine off, key in.

Just tried again.

Engine off, key out, open/close SR and each window as many times as you wish.

But the minute you open the door with key out, no more open/close any.
