Default 997.1 Turbo - P0021 Camshaft Over-Advanced

Hello fellow Porsche owners,

I have a 2007 997.1 turbo with 77.3k miles. About 60 miles after an oil change, I got the above CEL, P0021 Camshaft Over-Advanced in bank 2 with a cold engine at a low ~2k RPM.

I've read about the spun camshaft sleeve issue, but I replaced the hydraulic actuator valve first. After replacing the valve, I cleared the code and drove the car for about 5 miles. The CEL did not return (at first), however, I could feel hesitation in the engine around 2.5k RPM at light throttle. I thought maybe the ECU was relearning so I continued to drive normally. I then turned off the engine and ignition for about 5 minutes, restarted it and almost immediately upon beginning to drive the CEL returned. Same code as before.

Unfortunately, I don't have the space to drop the engine myself, so if it has to come out, it's going to be expensive. Does anyone have any ideas for additional tests I could perform myself?

Thanks in advance,

Andrew

I would reply on the 997 Turbo forum. I am betting someone over there has seen this. The engine as I am told is completely different than the N/A 997 motor.

Do you have a Cobb AP?

There are 4 monitors that you can log and you will confirm a spun camshaft.

Also...did you by any chance unplug your throttle body or battery?
